Wow. This was easier than I expected.

My wife and I have been planning to buy our first new car for at least a year. We knew what we wanted (Hyundai Elantra Touring GLS) It was just a matter of finding what we wanted for the right price. I had read many reviews for the Hyundai dealers in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and I was impressed by the consistently positive reviews I read for Jerry's Hyundai of Weatherford. But it was an awfully long way to go, when there are so many other Hyundai dealers in the area. However, this first car buying experience has taught me a lot. I actually came very close to a deal with a couple of other dealers. But in each case, I had to ask multiple times for the answers to some very simple, but important questions. And in each case, the deal was broken when the car turned out not to be what I told the salesman I was looking for, or the final price included some surprise options that increased the price. Very aggravating. And it's really boggling that so many so-called "Internet Sales Managers" can't seem to communicate effectively by e-mail. I expanded my search radius a bit and found a very good offer from Ed Gentry at Jerry's Hyundai. He answered all of my questions by e-mail, if not immediately, then at least by the end of the day. And his offer was hundreds of dollars better than other north Texas dealers. When we arrived, he had the car ready and guided us on a test drive that covered all the bases. We had driven the Elantra Touring before at another dealership, so we already had some experience and knew that we liked it. So the test drive was really a formality to make sure that the actual car in question had no obvious problems. After returning to the dealership, I took a quick look under the hood (I've never owned a clean, new engine before.) and checked out the interior. Then I verified that the price he quoted me was correct. It was, so we had a deal, and we went inside to sign the papers. We had our own financing through our credit union. But Gwen Damato, the business manager, offered to try and get us a better interest rate through Hyundai financing. She also told us about the extended warranty. We declined both, and she didn't argue. She also didn't try to push any other additional products. I really appreciated that, because we didn't want anything else, and I didn't want to have to argue about paint "sealant" or cargo nets or any of the other potential add-ons some dealers try to sell you. In short, we were very pleased with the whole experience, from start to finish. It was a long drive out there, but actually a very pretty one, once we got past Ft. Worth. I would recommend this dealer and our salesman to anyone wanting to buy a Hyundai. The only suggestion I would make is that if you are at all sensitive to chemical smells, make sure you ask them NOT to detail the interior of a car you're planning to buy. When they brought our Touring back from being washed and detailed, the chemical odor was waaay beyond what we usually think of as "new car smell." I don't know what they use in there, but a week later (including about four days straight in our garage with the windows rolled down), it's still really strong. I've started leaving a large dish of baking soda in the car to see if that helps. Other than that one small thing, I give this dealer five stars.
