Putnam Mazda - Deception, Fraud and Lies
Written by sfnat on 10/24/2008
Shady, shady, shady sales staff. We purchased a 2008 CX-7 AWD from Morry and Ali at Putnam. We negotiated over the phone and then drove 30 minutes to the dealership to finalize the purchase. Not only did they try to renegotiate the price we discussed to over the phone, they didn't even have the car in stock. Morry had guaranteed that they had acquired the silver GT model from the "warehouse". It turns out they didn't have the car in stock and couldn't get it from a neighboring dealer. So, they came to us with a whopper of a LIE. Al and Morry told us the 2008 GT had $1800 of body damage. We were blown away, this was the last GT in the Bay Area and we thought it was damaged. Based on this LIE, we ended up buying a lesser model, the Touring. They didn't even have one 2008 CX-7 at their dealership, so they had to get one from another dealer. We weren't able to see the car until the next day and on inspection, IT HAD BODY DAMAGE. The front bumper had sustained impact, there were scratches and it had cracked near the grill. It also had 90 more miles than listed on the sales paperwork. We agreed to pick up the car after they had replaced the bumper. They then told lies and stated we had to sign the due bill (receive the car) in order for them to replace the bumper. Then they tried to give us an invoice to "repair OR replace font bumper" when we were clear that we would only accept it if the bumper was totally replaced. Shady. We wrote a letter to the president, Kent Putnam, and spoke with the Mazda General Sales Manager, Sam. When confronted with the lies, the sales manager tried to justify the reasoning for the lies?! They offered approx. $300 in service as compensation. Absolute garbage. Horrible place. Horrible customer service.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. You should file complaints with the BBB and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for their deceptive business practices. Both can be done online (links found wihtin the ca dept of consumer affairs website). I am about to file complaints on the dealership where I purchased my cx-7. They tried everything from trying to sneak in additional fees or telling me lies about how a full credit application is needed when paying via bank draft or certified bank check. They also had the nerve to require me to sign a RISC - Simple Interest contract with unfavorable financing terms filled in, even though I was paying them with a certified bank check from my bank. The sales person and his GSM kept saying that it was just a standard receipt of delivery contract and that everyone signs it. The reality of signing this would've meant I'd agreed to financing with the dealership even though they clearly knew I was paying by certified check. They even had the nerve to tell me after I had questioned the legality of this pressure tactic that the financing contract was jus a precautionary measure to insure the dealership will be paid by my bank. Notice how the story just changed?? This is why I will make sure the state ag, BBB, and FTC will know about the shady business practices Antioch Mazda uses to trick the consumers of California. Beware, BEWARE, BEWARE of ANTIOCH AUTOCENTER - MAZDA.
