Dealership Sales Review

Dealership has gone downhill
Written by DaBaldw on 04/06/2017
My wife and I are from Florida. We purchased a new 2013 ML 350 for my wife in late 2012 from Mercedes of Jackson while visiting her family in Brandon. The sales experience with Edgar (no longer employed with the dealership) was excellent. This winter (specifically January, 2017) I began searching for a low mileage certified pre owned ML63 AMG for myself. One of the few dealerships within a 500 mile radius that had an ML63 with under 20,000 miles was, in fact, Mercedes of Jackson. Given my prior positive experience I went ahead and purchased there again. This time the sales process was not so pleasant. After reluctantly reaching a price agreement that my sales person said was the lowest offer the dealership could accept (he stated, "that's all the profit"), I was coerced into placing a deposit "so the car can be taken off the sales inventory immediately". I found out the next day that the car had not, in fact, been taken off the inventory but was actively re listed on the internet for 500 dollars lower than our agreed upon price. When I approached my salesperson with a screenshot of the new listing, he sheepishly told me after investigating the matter, that a higher up in South Carolina had updated the listing, unaware a higher price had been agreed upon the day before--as mentioned, a price below which my salesperson assured me they could not sell. Now, he told me, he would obviously have to honor the newly listed price. Shortly after picking up the car, I noticed large cracks in a door panel that were overlooked by the dealership in its multipoint inspection. I also noticed a vibration of the entire vehicle when braking from highway speed. Initially, the vibrations were partially overshadowed by very rough downshifting during braking as well as by a "thud" as the car finally shifted into first and then came to a stop. I went to my local dealership soon after purchase regarding the latter problems, and they verified that the issues existed. They solved the transmission issues with a simple software update. Downshifting is now much smoother and the thud is gone, but this has made the vibrations all the more noticeable. I was told this week by my local Mercedes service who once again verified the existence of problems, the vibrations are a result of "hot spots" (wear and tear) on all four rotors. Replacement of the door panel was reimbursed appropriately by Mercedes of Jackson a day after purchase, but they refused to help reimburse for rotor replacement this week and told me essentially that all the wear and tear must have occurred since purchase, as the rotors passed the dealership's multipoint CPO check (only 2000 miles ago with already 19,000 miles on the odometer). Furthermore, the Jackson sales manager told me he personally drove the car before selling and noted zero issues with the car (no panel cracks, no rough gear shifts, no thud, no vibrations--all of which were verified by my local Mercedes service technician shortly after purchase). Fortunately, Mercedes-Benz customer service offered to pick up the dropped ball and pay down the cost of rotor replacement from 2300 to just over 700 dollars and my local dealership performed the transmission software update free of charge. Still, that is 700 dollars one should not have to pay and a lot of hassles one should not have to endure within 2 and a half months of purchase of a CPO inspected car. This dealership appears to have become somewhat sloppy and unscrupulous in the past four years. Would not recommend.
