Beware of letter concerning extended warranty on fuel and speedometer gauge
Written by 11/08/2007
onI got a letter telling me about problems that had been identified in the fuel and speedometer gauges in GM cars, the letter said that the warranty had been extended on these parts. Since I had been bothered by how sluggish my fuel gauge worked I thought that this must be my problem so I took it in. I also asked about the thumping noise coming from the steering shaft. I had had the intermediate shaft replaced while it was still under the warranty and I didn't know if that was where the noise was coming from or not.The service dept. called me at work and told me that my problem with the fuel gauge was not due to the gauge but rather with the float in the tank and it would cost in the neighborhood of $400.00 to fix, she also said that the intermediate steering column that had been replaced almost 2 years before was where the thumping noise was coming from but since it was no longer under the warranty it would cost over $200.00 to fix that. I told her I couldn't afford a $600.00+ repair bill on a $45,000 vehicle that I was still making payments on. She then told me I had a $43.50 charge for diagnostic time. When I went to the cashier to pay this she told me my bill was $52.00. I asked her what the other charge was for and she said it was a misc. charge. After another trip to the service counter the misc. charge was taken off but I did not leave with a warm and cozy feeling about my dealership.
