Good Showroom Experience

onBefore I begin, let me say that I used to run two Toyota dealerships, BMW and Hyundai franchises. Car dealers hate me because now that Im on the other side of the tale - I know every trick, every dodge, and won't tolerate BS from sales reps who don't know their own product.
My VW purchase experience was pretty good. Tom, the Internet manager was knowledgeable, honest and very professional. The sales manager was solid too, but between them they played a few numbers games that weren't quite kosher, but I stopped that pretty quickly. Bottomline- like every car dealership in America, you need to go in armed with info, know what you want to pay, and be prepared to walk. I used all these strategies at Boardwalk.
The whole surcharging over list is a 80's tactic that should outright banned. Its ridiculous and no self-respecting car dealer should pretend to determine a fair market rate for a new car (used cars is a different story). The manufacturer sets the price and the market sets the real fair price.
In any case, Boardwalk is pretty average in terms of fairness. I've now met a lot of the management team and they seem to have solid processes in place to be fair and upfront about their pricing and policies.
I would have no problem recommending them to friends. I do think they could do with some more passion, excitement and interest in their VW brand. It would appear to them that each brand they carry is just another "unit" that needs to be turned to feed their large real estate investment.
