Dealership Sales Review

It was all great until we paid the money...
Written by VWFanCA on 09/27/2013
Day 0: The buying process was a breeze. They matched the price we were paying for the certified pre-owned (CPO) car elsewhere, even though the car they had was a trim higher than the one we'd priced elsewhere. So we made a downpayment, and took care of the financing part and scheduled to pick the car up 2 days later. Things to note: The car had an after market stereo Day 2: We get to the dealership and they tell me that I'd only get one key with the car because that's the way they got it. We were surprised since we just bought a CPO car, not a used car. When I told them that surely there must be some provision in the CPO standards to give 2 keys to the purchaser, they told us that that was not true and we'd have to do with just one key. We drive away in the car, not feeling so much excited about the buy. They gave us the car with a near empty tank. And when I asked them if they'd fill it up for us, the salesman told us that that's the way they sell cars around here. Come on! I just paid you more than 25 grand and you can't even give me a full tank of gas worth 60 something bucks? That's just pathetic. I bought my previous car for just 8 grand and that dealership made sure that I left the dealership with a smile. But not these guys. Day 2 contd.: Once we get home with the car, I notice a scraping sound coming from underneath the car. When I bend down to have a look, I see that a plastic part is dangling down from the nose of the car. I was like WTF is going on here. I immediately called them back and asked them for an explanation. At first, their attitude was like, "You did it!". But when I explained to them that there was nothing that we could have hit in the 20 mile almost exclusively freeway based trip-back home, they relented and asked me to make an appointment. I don't get how this dealership can be a 'Diamond-certified' dealership if they cannot even ensure that the car is in excellent physical condition before selling it. And obviously, I cannot get the car to them over the next 2 weeks owing to the holiday weekend. so I drive around with the part scraping against the road. Day 30: Meanwhile, I've tested the car thoroughly and also gone over the CPO agreement from VW. Turns out that I am entitled to 2 keys, and the car to be in a condition it was when it was brand new. The after market stereo in the car was a joke! It had poor radio reception, didn't have HD radio or satellite radio. It did have Nav but it was pathetic just the same. You couldn't turn on Nav and listen to music at the same time. The stereo also wasn't hooked up to the steering controls either therefore diminishing its value to me while driving by a lot. I had to pester them for weeks, via email and heated phone calls before they gave in and agreed to change the stereo to something that VW made. They agreed to give me an RNS 510 which comes with Nav but not before I was frustrated beyond my dreams. So they finally took the car in for servicing for almost a week and fixed everything. Day 37: Before getting my car back, I asked them if everything was working fine. They assured me that everything indeed was working great. I asked them if I'd be able to hook up my iPod to the stereo and they told me yes. However, when I went to get the car, I saw that the necessary module simply wasn't installed in the car. I did get an extra key and a new plastic part that was scraping against the road. Therefore, I left almost satisfied. But I really did want the iPod integration to work. Present day: Day 60 something: I tried to make an appointment with them, right after I took the car back in from them but the manager who'd authorize everything went on vacation, so the process got stalled for a week, or so I thought. They told me that Michael, the manager would get back to me as soon as he got back from vacation, but he never did, for over a month. Finally, I confronted him on the phone and he told me that he thought he'd done enough for me that didn't even ...
