Would someone please describe the sounds the engine makes and how the vehicle drives that would indicate the timing chain adjuster is going bad. I have an 01 XL7 with about 54000 miles on it and runs great but don't want my timing chain to go out on me and a bad time. I am assuming Suzuki did not extend the warranty for this particular item. Unfortunately, 2001 was 3/36 warranty. ... Read More

I've owned a 2001 Suzuki XL-7 since buying it new. Likes: great supsension, reasonable reliability, roomy but not too big. Dislikes: lousy retained value. These things drop value faster than Chrysler products. Dealer isn't exactly my favorite for service. And the tires/wheel package. I HATE the H rated 16 inch tires. Run factory pressure settings and yiu are guaranteed center wear on the tire. These things are over-tired. I'd be a ... Read More

There is a separate manual on the radios. The models all seem to be the same in terms of operation, and as mentioned the only difference is in the AM and FM band with which appear to be insignificant. There maybe a cross over number from the ones I mentioned with Clarion to see if you can get a 6 CD changer or speak to your Suzuki dealer If you are looking ... Read More

The radios are made by Clarion and models PS 2375, PS 2376 and PS 2377 are used by Suzuki. The different numbers relate to the AM and FM Frequency Ranges From the handbook looks if you can get a 6 CD changer as it has the capability to hook up to one. Need to check some of the car audio sites to see compatible models.

I just went on a trip and "happened" to be in the dealer shop getting something fixed (recall) and was told that Suzuki "recommends" that all XL7's use uridium spark plugs. This (in the shop) is about 120 bucks. I found the plugs for 7.50 apiece. Theyu say that our trucks will start missing and quit completely if this is not done. The idiot lite comes on saying service engine soon ... Read More

my family has a 2003 Suzuki XL7 Limited also, and I do not see why some Consumer (no names here!) magazines say that Suzuki quality is bad. the XL7 has a very nice interior, a quiet and smooth engine, and lots of features for the price!! i guess what drags the overall reliability of a auto manufacturer is one model that sticks out at POOR...(i think its the Vitara due to ... • Tire cupping and what to do?

In my message #830 I complained about severe tire cupping on my 2001 XL-7 at 20,000 miles. Thanks for your responses. Here is my plan, give me some feedback please. I of course have to buy new tires. The dealer says my front end is not out of alignment and blames the tires. Since I have had my tires rotated every 3000 miles the cupping is visible on all tires but ... Read More

27000 + miles 2001 XL-7 Touring Model. Experienced a failure with the remote that locks and unlocks the doors. Replacing the battery (3V) did not cure the problem. However, the 2nd remote worked fine. Two were issued when the vehicle was purchased. The dealer advised that the entire remote unit must be replaced in order for two keyless remotes to work. I've owned my 2002 XL-7 Touring for a little over a month, and have taken it on a couple of 200 mile day trips to my father's house in Pennsylvania (we live in New York State). My wife, three children (ages 15,12 and 10) and I have found the XL-7 extremely comfortable on these trips. There's plenty of room for the kids. My father owns a 2001 Rav 4 and has ... Read More

  • XL-7 Brake Noise

Written by: paride on Apr 2, 2002 5:42:58 AM

I'm wondering if any other XL-7 owners have had this situation. This weekend, I began to hear considerable noise from the rear end every time the brakes were applied at low speed. It sounds like metal scraping on metal, very much like the low front pad warning sensors I've had on other cars. I'll be calling the dealer service department on this today. Note that my XL-7 is a 2002 (don't ... Read More

Finally took my XL-7 in to the dealer to have them diagnose a very quiet "gear noise" that I've been hearing since new. I had mentioned it to them once before (for my free 3K oil change), but I didn't have enough insight into the problem then, and they suggested that I wait to see if it was something that just went away upon futher breakin. Well, in short, it didn't. ... Read More

Well, the word back from the dealer was that my brand new Suzuki XL7 suffered engine failure. No details were given but I was told the vehicle is sitting waiting for a replacement engine. Thanks to paisan's advice, I am close to a deal on a 2001 Trooper S. Thanks all for your input. God bless all.
