What matters to the buyer is what the car is worth down the road vs. actual purchase price. You can spend all day running different numbers, but here's a brief example using my notes from when I purchased my G8, and current trade values from KBB (what the dealers use--sorry Edmunds). ... Bills are being drafted to outlaw the UAW?? That will certainly help level the playing field... laurasdada, The UAW aren't totally to blame. They do blame themselves for allowing idiot beancounter CEO's like Roger Smith, to let the curve go across the plate while GM, was caught looking. The UAW, promised recently they will play a bigger role on product launches and said they will play a role in signing off ... Read More

What ? This car is like 6 or 7 inches shorter than a current Grand Prix Check out http://www.velocityjournal.com/journal/2008/pontiac/16827sp.html for G8 specs. The wheelbase is actually a good 2+" larger on the G8 than the current GXP. Length is about 6" shorter than the current GXP. Both width and height are a smidge more on the G8. Interior room is very similar as well. For comparing to the 5 series, check ... Read More

First, by raising the issue ( for me ) of the apparent near 4,000 pound weight of the G8 V8, I mean no disrespect to GM \ Pontiac , nor do I mean to ignore or “gloss over” the fact that they will be bringing to market something with features & specifications that many, many here & elsewhere have been asking for – for quite a long time: For example: RWD ... It's here and boy it looks good. Coming in early 08. http://www.pontiac.com/ CHICAGO – Confirming its commitment to style and performance, Pontiac introduced a show car version of an all-new, rear-wheel-drive performance sedan at the Chicago Auto Show. The 2008 Pontiac G8 will be available in dealerships early next year. “With the balance of rear-wheel drive and the availability of V-8 power, the G8 represents another step in Pontiac ’s commitment ... I have some experience with 2 major pieces of this G8’s drivetrain. ( Somewhat modified, apparently, but fundamentally the same. ) Specifically: The 6.0L V8 and the 6L80 automatic \ manumatic trans. are in my 2007 Corvette. The additional weight ( I knew it would be heavier than my C6, with a back seat, and all – but almost 4,000 pounds?? ) will obviously not help either acceleration or nimbleness of ... Read More

I agree...... The G8 will have the GT which is 362' hp. A GXP with 400+ hp via 6.0 or 6.2 VVT V8 I've also read that a special limited edition model to have 502 hp. is in the works. That would be great because then Cadillac, would almost be forced to put the 600 hp. version of the supercharged LS-7 in the CTS-V Rocky

No offense but when I think Grand Prix, I think of really bad FWD 80s and 90s cars. Not a 4-door Grand Touring German/Japanese luxo car killer. The G5, G6, G8 monikers bring a little bit of class to the nameplate. Grand Prix also conjures mullets and cheap beer! -mike

I read today that they are ditching the Grand Prix name for G8......so you will have G5, G6 and G8. Thats right GM follow Ford and take a classic name like Grand Prix and the hundreds of thousands of them sold over the years and throw it away. Maybe I am old fashioned but the American car companies are trying to be like Audi (A4, A6, ect) instead of just being ... Read More

I don't find the Grand Prix boring at all. There's no comparison between the Grand Prix or Impala!!! The Impala looks like "nothing." The design is terrible and it looks like any ordinary sedan. At least the GXP has a lot of style and looks sporty, even though it's a sedan!!! What does the Impala have??? It looks exactly like an ordinary family car. At least the Grand Prix looks sporty ... GM needs *everything* Holden makes. Problem is that once you build it and ship it over from Australia with the big engine and all the fun gadgets on it, you have to sticker it well above $30k and try to sell it to people who expect to get big decontented cars for $20k OTD. GM would do very well to move 40k a year of an unmolested Commodore SS here.

Well bumpy wouldn't you agree it's a car that GM, desperately needs ? I think GM could sell 75-100,000 units if this Holden Grand Prix was to come out. I think it would need to feature the tactile feel of the others. Gadgetology I think could make the difference. GM, could start with a mega-watt surround sound system, and work all the way up to featuring swivel headlamps. Rocky

The current Grand Prix is a boring FWD crusier that's taken even more abuse from the cost-cutters than the Impala or Lacrosse. No one can be bothered to give a poop about it, and the Holden rumors are nothing more than wishful thinking at this point.
