Ford Five Hundred/Mercury Montego Maintenance & Repair

  • Ford Five Hundred Limited 2007 Purchase Pending

Written by: computerguru on Jan 12, 2010 5:34:09 PM

Is this a good idea? Gosh, after having reviewed the 18 or so pages on the forum, it sounds like it may not. My dad is considering one - and will meet with the existing owner tomorrow morning, and will then proceed to his mechanic to have the vehicle inspected. The mileage is 38,000.00 and the private owner is asking $11,000.00. Is this a good deal? It seemed like most of ... Read More

Bought car in May 2007. Now I'm finding my rear brake pads are shot - and I never received the recall notice from Ford regarding replacement & warranty extension. I have 29,000 miles and would like to know of any options I might have. I don't know why I never received the recall.....

My pads on my Mercury Montego were replaced by the recall at 21000 miles in September 2007. Now its November 2008, I have 47000 miles and they say the pads and rotors need to be replaced! Some things not right. Anyone else had this problem? Ford says must be my driving! Also pads last only 18000 - 30000 miles today - I do not believe this. I never had a problem ... Read More

Well - hopefully, this will be a one-shot deal, per the warranty replacement program. Seems like the factory rear brakes were stored in damp conditions, which caused the problem. I just had my done last week under warranty at about 33,000 miles. The rotors were OK, so they just turned them to clean them up and put the new pads on. Here's the warranty letter if you need it. Perhaps I can answer your questions, since I bought a Malibu Maxx instead of a Five Hundred, Montego, or Freestyle (I also considered the Chrysler 300, the Dodge Magnum, the Toyota Tacoma, and the Ford Explorer), and the Maxx replaced my 2002 Mercury Mountaineer). I prefer the looks of the Montego, especially the rear, but from the spy photos, the 2008 versions of all three of the Ford cars, and the ... Read More

  • 2008 refresh?

Latest I have read said mid 2007 refresh on the exterior only. Is that still correct? Will these be considered 2008 models? Also- I see where the 500 will head (more towards a Fusion front end, which is a great idea). But isn't the Montego already very in-line with the corporate Mercury look? I prefer the Montego and wonder how they will freshen it. Finally - I hope Ford starts offering ... Read More

  • Five Hundred/Montego based Freestyle to be dropped for MY 2007

A Mercury version was always planned for 2007. It's still coming out. But the Ford Freestyle based on the same platform as the Five Hundred/Montego is dropped after MY 2007. The name will continue, but it will not be the Five Hundred/Montego platform... The FreeSTAR will also be dropped shortly thereafter.. May 13, 2005, 3:31 PM ET by Walter J Keegan Jr. http://www.autoblog.com/ In some ways this is great news. The 3.5-liter Duratec engine is ready for the CD3 sedans next year. The 2007 versions of the Lincoln Zephyr, Mercury Milan and Ford Fusion will all have the 3.5 as optional engines. Now here’s the bad news: If Ford continues with these dates, the D3 Chicago cars: Five Hundred, Montego and Freestlye ... Read More

I agree with some of your complaints, especially the lack of stability control and a cabin air filter, I'd even settle for a high efficiency HEPA type filter in lieu of activated charcoal, and the safety package really should be standard equipment, still that won't deter me from getting one now, I've got a Montego on order. But, I'm perhaps a bit more understanding of why these features aren't available now, and ... Read More

In regards to the Navigation System it'll proably come either in 2006 or 2007. The five hundred will be getting a exterior redesign to look more like the Ford 427 concept. The Ford fusion will be the first car to embody the 427 styling. The 3.5L will also be introduced next year as another engine option as well as different interior and exterior colors and other minor changes. The montego will ... Read More
