2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster: We Found Some Really Expensive Gasoline

At $6.899 per gallon, the price of gasoline in Gorda, California illustrates what it might cost to fill the tank of our 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG if we lived in Europe. Ouch.

I did a little more digging and discovered something else: That singular filling station in Gorda has a bit of a notorious reputation. At one time, that pump dispensed the most expensive gasoline in the entire United States. I have a feeling this is still true.

Gorda is right - the owners are sure getting fat off of this location. I see the SLS' reflection in the pump - are you saying you actually paid this?

my god that's a lot. On the bright side, there's only a 20cent difference between regular and premium (or at least what you californians would refer to as premium)

That actually even manages to pip the most expensive stations in Ontario. Quite impressive.

I assumed this was somewhere in the desert on the way to Arizona or Nevada and they could charge that much because if you ran out of gas out there there would be nothing else to do but get eaten by coyotes. No, apparently it is just outside of Big Sur, and they charge that much to subsidize their 100-gallon-a-day diesel generator. Why anyone would go there for gas I have no idea.

Or if you lived in Canada.

  • I can only imagine how much they are charging for a gallon of diesel.
