Best Dealership Service Ever

by 3rd Coast Mike on 07/14/2023

Just got home from an intensive test drive following some comprehensive and complicated work on my Outback. I've owned cars since the mid '60's and usually used dealerships for service because of their specialized knowledge and experience. I've never seen a better service department from Hawaii to Washington, D.C. Marcus, the service writer, was especially professional and helpful, keeping me apprised of problems and solutions throughout the 3-day ordeal. I most highly recommend Schlossmann's for any and all service your car may need.

Promised one thing, delivered another

by MattBIL on 08/25/2017

The short version of this is that I would recommend video and audio recording when shopping at this dealership as what you are told and what you may get may not match up. First, let me preface this by saying not only was I the jerk that came in on the Saturday before Memorial Day, but also showed up 10 minutes before they closed on that day so I 100% expected to be rushed, but I was fairly wrong and didn't really feel like an inconvenience to the staff. The process of buying the car and the followups I've received since have been pretty fluid. The GM even hung around, introduced himself, and literally stood out front of the dealership as I drove off the lot with a smile and a wave. These are all my positives and why I didn't give a lower rating. Now for the negatives and the reason they're only getting 3 stars. First, I did my research online. I was in the market for very specific features and found 3 cars on their lot that had the specific features I was looking for. On the hour and a half drive to the dealership, I called and gave them a heads up that I was coming in, wanted this specific stock #, what I was doing for down payment, etc. Again, Memorial Day weekend, I didn't want to keep them any more than I had to. When I arrived, they had pulled up 2 different cars ready and waiting for me, super cool right? Except not the specific stock # I provided on the phone. We went looking and it turns out the car that I wanted had already been sold despite it being shown on their website as for sale and the person I spoke with on the phone telling me it was still available and they'd pull it up to the front for me. While the sales guy was reviewing the car's features, there were a couple of things he mentioned that stood out to me because I had never had them a car of mine in the past: 1. Steering assisted LED foglights. I distinctly remember this because he actually got out of the car to check and make sure I had foglights, he returned to the car and told me that I do have foglights and that means they're steering assisted. 2. LED headlights. Again, I distinctly remember this due to the fact that I've never had this on my car. 3. Onboard garage door openers. I distinctly remember him starting to talk about this before we were interrupted by the finance department for me to do more paperwork. Now, this wouldn't be a big deal except when I take the car to my local Subaru dealership, they're equally perplexed by all of this. They couldn't figure out the deal with the fog lights, confirmed I didn't have LED headlights and were straight to the point about the garage door opener being an option...a $400 option. Mind you, I bought a car with all the safety bells and whistles like eyesight, adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance (read and front), etc. They couldn't quite identify the foglight situation immediately. The computer needed an update so they called me later that day with more details about all my questions. 1. They're not fog lights, they're Daytime Running Lights, there is no fog light option for the Impreza (really odd because there are two switches for this in the manual with the (if equipped) tag next to them. 2. No, you don't have LED headlights, you need to take that up with the dealership. 3. No, you don't have the mirror with garage door openers, you need to take that up with the dealership. So I call Schlossmann's and the sales person I had is out of the office for a couple weeks. I leave a message and the New Car Sales Manager calls me back. In short: I don't know what was said during the sale and the salesperson is out of the office. There aren't LED headlights on Imprezas, not even as an option. Went back and forth on the fog lights but came to the conclusion that they don't exist either (keep in mind that the DRL are where fog lights are in any other car so you can understand the confusion). No, you don't have the garage door openers but you can come in and we'll install it for around $400 + labor. At this point I'm getting conflicting information from the dealerships about the existence of parts. I did a quick Google search and sure enough, on Subaru's parts website, there are fog lights for my Impreza. In an effort to get clarity, I called Subaru corporate to see what the deal was. Do these mythical parts exist or not? What is my recourse for being sold a car with specific features and not actually getting them? I got someone who didn't really know much about the Impreza beyond what you can read in brochures, but I did get clarity on everything eventually. The fog lights DO exist, but not steering assisted fog lights. There is no such thing as LED headlights on a 2017 Subaru Impreza of any trim, and yes, there's the awesome ~$400 mirror that I can buy. As for getting this accomplished, I have to take it up with the dealership that I purchased the car from. So at the end of the day, features that I was told I was getting either didn't exist or didn't exist on that car but they'll be more than happy to charge me a cumulative fee of over $1,000 to install what does exist. These aren't really deal breaking items, it's like I was told I was getting an automatic transmission and got a manual, I probably would've bought the car without these features; but the point is that I was told one thing and was delivered another. I have learned my lesson and will be video and audio recording any future car purchases regardless of who and where I purchase from and then I have some teeth in getting what I was promised. In a person's life, cars are the 2nd most expensive items you'll ever purchase besides a house. I need to be able to trust who I'm talking to and who I'm dealing with or it's a real problem. I hope this same issue doesn't happen to others and maybe the sales folks can get some better training on the cars they're selling.

Unprofessional Sales Team

by guinness835 on 06/04/2011

My wife and I went to the dealership to purchase a new Subaru. The salesman was nice and helpful, but during price negotiations things went south. The specific car we were in negotiations about was not at the dealership, but we were told it was coming in a dealer trade. Unknown to us, the vehicle had already been sold, but we were not told this and we continued to negotiate on that specific car. While on the phone with the salesman regarding price, we were told the car was no longer available. The sales manager, Steve, spoke to my wife and told her he did not know how the car we were planning to buy was not available and he never saw anything like it in his 9 years. After my wife pressed Steve about the issue, he abruptly hung up on her. We wound up going to Sommer's Subaru in Mequon a few days later and purchased a Subaru within 45 minutes. Our experience with Sommer's was a complete 180 from Subara City. The staff there was very friendly and professional and did not play games. It is regretful we had the experience we did at Subaru City because it is a half hour closer to our house. We will never take our new Subaru to Subaru City for any service and are now loyal fans of Sommer's.

Subaru Forrester 2.5 Limited

by solarsailor on 05/09/2011

This was one of the best buying experiences that I had at this dealership. The sales rep was excellent and I felt right at home. I hope their service department is just as good as the sales and I think it will be. They are very customer focused.

If you're buying a subaru get it from here

by aleksey4 on 05/08/2010

I purchased my 2010 subaru Legacy from this dealership and I'm already planning on getting my next subaru from them. I actually was at a prior dealership before I came to Subaru City, and the one before almost turned me off from Subaru's in general. They were rude, disrespectful, and wouldn't even let me test drive a car. Then I came to Subaru City and the moment I set foot on the lot an associate named Chris Glass walked over to me and asked if I needed help. I told her what the other dealership did and she was shocked, and instantly suggested I test drive whatever I wanted. I was instantly impressed by the customer service, I actually have never been treated better while shopping for a car. The entire sales staff is amazing, the sales manager Matt was great as well, he said he'd get me a good deal and he did. To sum it all up i will not go anywhere else to purchase a Subaru, they have my business for a very long time and I will recommend them to anyone else.

Every Dealership Should Be This Good!

by katnboo on 04/30/2010

Leased my second Subaru from Subaru City because my old dealer isn't around anymore. Everyone at Subaru City was pleasant and fun! They made the whole experience honest and easy! The finance manager, Amy, was organized and helpful, and I was done within a very reasonable time. My car was ready and clean, and they went over everything with me. I'm a Subaru fan, and now I'm also a Subaru City fan--can't wait for number 3!!!

Subaru City, [violative content deleted]?

by demidan on 11/05/2009

I brought a subaru to Subaru City to have it inspected prior to purchase. The inspection cost $110.oo and I was told that the car would need ONE wheel bearing repaired cost $300.oo and that the car was a good deal. I had the bearing repaired at another shop and was told that it needed a second bearing, brought it to Subaru city this time to be repaired with the $300 quote in mind, after they took the car apart ,(at a cost of $55),they told me I needed a wheel bearing (just what I TOLD them), and that replacing it would cost $684?!?!?!!!! I talked to the receptionist with the mechanic standing next to her that they had previously quoted $300, they both said to my face that they do not remember this quote. What is this all about? I think they are trying to get one over on me. Next step is small claims court, to repay the inspection cost and the cost of the second bearing!
