Damaged My Vehicle During Appraisal and Denied Doing So
Written by 05/23/2010
onI recently visited The Audi Exchange in Highland Park, IL. I have a pristine Mercedes SL500 that I was interested in trading in on an Audi A5. Prior to turning the keys over to the salesman to get an appraisal on my car while I test drove the Audi, I asked him to be very careful where he parked it because I did not want to get a door ding, curb rash on wheels, etc. He assured me that the sales manager would do the appraisal and be careful. When I returned, my car had obviously been driven and was returned to the same parking spot, except it was pulled way over the concrete parking bumper. I told my salesman I was concerned and that I would check it for damage before I left the dealership. When it appeared we were not going to make a deal, I asked the salesman to come with me to check for damage on my car. He said he was too busy and I should talk to the sales manager if there was a problem. I asked my wife to check as I backed off the parking bumper. Sure enough, there was damage (paint scraped off) the chin spoiler. I went back into the dealership and confronted the sales manager. He denied doing anything, refused to even look at it, and flippantly told me to call the cops. I did call the Highland Park police and they came to the dealership. After talking with me and the sales manager separately, the cop said there was nothing he could do because the dealer was denying doing anything wrong and it would be a civil matter. So I guess the only thing I can do is to warn others of the lack of professionalism and integrity of the personnel at this dealership. I would never do business with The Audi Exchange.
