Buying a car from a Buick Car Dealer
Congratulations and best of luck with your new "baby". I too went on line and built my own. Then I went to about 10 area dealers. Like all stores, some were more helpful and friendlier than others. Like you, I didn't want, or need, all the bells and whistles. I ordered (on June 18th) a red CXL with basic radio, Driver Convenience and Luxury Packages, and Cargo cover & Net (I wouldn't order these again, not for $90...I'd buy aftermarket for a lot less). We took delivery September 18th (about 13 weeks) and the dealer, Cunningham Motors in Queens, NY, couldn't have been better. I got the Conquest Rebate (my youngest son has a Mercury), and they gave me an additional $500 off. I'm happy.
I have written about this before, but for the sake of new readers, here goes. I had been leasing a 2005 Terraza, whose lease was up in January 2008. I knew I would exceed the mileage (36,000) so I had to get moving...this was in June. I had looked at the Enclave in Orlando, Florida, in April, and THIS was THE car!! I ordered mine on June, 18th from a dealer (Cunningham Motors) in Bayside, Queens, NY. They couldn't have been friendlier. I knew then that it would take about 12 to 14 weeks...but I had plenty of time. The dealer gave me credit for 2 payments, GM would give me credit for 2 months (Early Give Back Program), and my son who lives at the same address has a Mercury, so I got another $1,000 off for "Conquest". Not bad, considering. Well, our Enclave arrived about September 15th, and we picked it up on September 21st. I think most new cars are probably great, but this one is sensational. We loved our Terraza, but this one has it beat, hands down!. Oh yes, we tried to go through Costco, but, at that time, they didn't list the Enclave, only the other Buicks, and the dealer was not willing to offer any discounts or incentives. I think I did just as well anyway, and have a good dealer besides.
I sympathize with you. Here in NY, the Enclave is a rarity. I saw my first one, and took a test drive, in May in Orlando, Florida. Here in Brooklyn my local dealer doesn't even have brochures! I ordered mine June 18th from a dealer in Queens. I was told to expect delivery probably about September 1st. I have plenty of time...my lease expires in December. The Enclave is more than a step above the Acadia...I've driven them both. The Acadia is like a no frills version. Have you tried going on GM's website and checking the dealers' inventories in your area? Maybe it's worth a drive to San Francisco to see one. Obviously, the advantage of ordering one is you get what you want, not just what the dealer has. Remember that the Enclave wasn't supposed to be released until October...so they really released it early. Instead of renewing your lease for 6 months, can you just go month-to-month...just a thought.
I'm sorry to be so long in replying...vacation in the Outer Banks, NC. I live in New York City, so there are mucho dealers...NY, NJ, Pa...and so on. I ordered mine through a dealer in Queens, NY...a lady salesperson. This is what more dealers should do...hire some women (No, I'm a happily married grandfather) and the salesperson was an over 50, not pushy, very polite and informed individual. Hey, just try another dealer. It's your money and their "commission". Good Lock
