Best Bang for the Buck

1994 Volvo 940
Although kind of hard to find used, since no one who owns one seems to let them go, I found a 1994 940 with 147K on it for a fair price and put $1000 into it to get the full 30 and 50K service done on it. I fully expect to have no problems with the car for 3-4 years now, beyond typical maintenance, as these cars are solid, safe, comfortable and reliable. Repair labor and parts seem about … the same as my Honda and used parts abound, at least in Portland, OR, probably the Volvo (and Subaru) capitol of the US. My minor quibbles: the air conditioning is not the best, even though I have a newer compressor and the sound system/speakers are not that great, even after I installed a new CD player.
