Review of the 2004 Hyundai Tiburon

  • With clean styling, optional V6 power and a generous warranty, the Tiburon would seem to have no faults, but a few too many pounds and a less-than-athletic suspension keep it from attaining class-leading sport coupe status.

  • Safety
  • Pros

Sharp styling, available V6 power, generous standard equipment list, reasonable price, great warranty.

  • Cons

Considerable weight takes it toll on performance, thirsty at the pumps in V6 form.

  • What's New for 2004

The Tiburon's base 2.0-liter inline four has been fitted with continuously variable valve timing. As a result, horsepower creeps up slightly to 138; torque also rises to 136 pound-feet. The base Tiburon now features a standard rear spoiler. The Tiburon GT V6 Special Edition is a late 2004 introduction, and comes loaded with most of the GT's options as standard equipment, as well as unique trim and badging.

Love it but it hates

Vehicle: 2004 Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 Special Edition 2dr Coupe (2.7L 6cyl 4A)

I love almost everything about this car but it seems to hate my guts. Bought it with about 90,000 miles on it and after about 6 months the problems started happening. New Clutch, New Timingbelt, was modified with a coldair intake before my purchase and had no cover so it would suck up water when it rained and the check engine light would pop on, front gas pipe leak, front and back oil valve seepage, cover on the moonroof broke, rear window washer broke, driver side window broke, etc. Basically it needs massive repairs every 1-2 months. Not sure if its just a lemon or not because I constantly have different mechanics telling me what great shape it's in and how clean the engine is.

Hands down best deal for

Vehicle: 2004 Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 Special Edition 2dr Coupe (2.7L 6cyl 4A)

I have owned my SE for almost 5 months and I have had no problems other than I drive it too much. Gas consumption could be better but other than that, this is the new car of the future. Looks like a luxury sports car, has all features come standard. Could use minor improvements but overall a best buy for anyone. People look at me like I'm in a Porsche. Go buy one for yourself.
