Thanks who would have thought of that. Okay the fuse was blown out so now I am going to trek on back to auto zone and see if they can read the code for me.
Cig fuse powers diagnostic plug.
It is the on board diagnostic plug. that has no power to it. Looks like I will have to wire chase but do not know which one of the four is supposed to be the hot lead wire
Has to be a code for something else, you could not drive it to auto zone with no power to ECM.
MY 2002 just decided to light up its check engine light. I took it into the local auto zone to see what the code it was well my ECM is not getting any power I wiggled all teh wires behind it and still nothing. Does any one have a clue on how to fix this so I can see what is going on this is my only vehicle I have that ... Read More
Hi thebigal. A Question for you (and others) if I may ?? My, purchased new, 2002 GMC Sonoma (now has only 48K mi) has been acting a little strange in the part few months (or may be it's just me being paranoid ??). The Front end / drive bearings seem to be getting louder - but it seems to come and go. Perhaps it's just age - and the cold in ... Read More
update From message #321, after all was said and done, I changed the actuator valve, the mechanic said that there was moisture in the air line and when it is cold the truck is in 2x4 even in 4x4 after it was fixed ! I then had to fix front Premium wheel bearings , after pricing 3 different suppliers Canadian Tire was the cheapest except for eBay, which by the way ... Read More
I have a 2002 gmc sonoma with 4.3 liter motor. I have been having problems with the fuel pump not kicking on. I used to be able to hit the hitch with a hammer causing it to start. I thought it was a bad motor in the pump. I replaced the pump assembly and fuel filter. Now it still doesn't come on. I have checked all of the fuses and the ... Read More
I flushed the cooling system and replaced thermostate on my 2002 GMC Sonoma with79,000 miles on it. I've had nothing but probems after that. Service engine light came on, did diagnostic - water temp below engine temp. Replaced temprature sending unit. Same thing? I have to drive 10 miles before engine reaches operating temp?
automatic, changed front actuator valve $130 labor in 10 minutes to change, the 2x4 to 4x4 would not engage, it would stay in 4x4 all the time, whining noise front passengers side, changed valve now 4x4 to 2x4 works, apparently a common s -10 problem but still have front end noise, (sounds like heavy tire tread at hi way speed). it's not the tires though may have worn parts because of ... :( Saw where you had the same problem with speedometer on your 99 Sonoma after putting the radio back in. Can you please let me know if you were able to find out what the problem was? Thanks
2002 GMC Sonoma. No foglamps installed. Good taillight bulbs. New headlight switch. Voltage at taillight connector. Ran a jumper wire from battery to taillight and it would not light. Grounded with no change. All other lights work fine except license plate lights. Fuses have all been checked. Relays are fine. Finally have installed my own taillights on the rear bumper, but I'd like to fix the original ones. Anyone have any ... Read More
I have a 2002 GMC Sonoma 4X4 crew cab and get the same code (0300) when I drive at 60 on the highway. I have no hesitation at any speed and the truck runs great. Do you think the crank sensor could be the problem? I have replaced the plugs, wires, rotor. cap, distributor, fuel filter, pvc.
Interesting story, 1st thing to remember is to never jump start a car that has a computer or several computers that operate different systems, the proper way to jump start a comp controlled car is to disconnect the pos/neg cables, then charge the battery, preferably with a trickle charger if the battery is really low (checked with a volt/ohm meter first). The biggest problem with jump starting is that $en$ative and expen$ive ... Read More
My dad parked his 02 Sonoma after it ran fine. Tried to crank it that night, and it would turn over but refused to crank. Today I checked with a spark tester and we were getting the light on when the plug would fire, but it seemed somewhat dim (maybe just me, can't recall how bright it should be). Checked fuel pump...had good pressure. Chjecked fuel filter and seemed clogged/restrictive. Bought ... Read More
Hi, New Member hoping you can help :) I have a 2002 GMC Sonoma 4x4 SLS Crew Cab. It has the V6 ("W" vin) with Automatic Trans. I have recently begun to hear an oscillating whine, or buzzing sound, that seems to be coming from the distributor. It tends to only last between 15 seconds, to maybe a minute, and then goes away. I've heard it at startup most recently, but ... Read More

I have a 2002 GMC Sonoma, Single Cab, SLS, Stepside, 4.3L, 5 Speed, 2WD, with the ZQ8 Suspension Package. We have had this truck since we drove it off of the showroom floor in 2003. This truck has been great to us however I change all of the fluids more often then they should be changed. Now when I drive the truck if makes awful noises. Its fine when you accelerate ... Read More
2002 GMC Sonoma 82,000 miles 2.2 Engine Distributorless ignition. Developed a clattering in the engine that sounds like it is coming from the valve train area. This has been going on for months and it is getting louder, now there is a vibration accompanying the noise. The engine has excellent oil pressure, runs cool and has new plugs and wires. While at idle the noise is minimal but increases when RPM ... Read More

Boy Chris !!! Thanks So Much.. !!!! I saw your post - and decided that, eventually, my cables would go as well (2002 GMC Sonoma 36K and alwarys garaged at home)- so I clicked over to NAPA and bought a set - they arrived last Thursday. As luck would have it - I climbed up on the tail gate Saturday to sweeep out the truck - and you can guess what ... Read More
Hi, Not sure if this helps .... but ... I think there is as procedure in your manual to manually dis-engage from 4 low to hi gear ... Perhaps if you try that - it will get you into 4/2 hi for now ... Sonoma electrical problems: I just bought a 2002 GMC Sonoma with 50k miles for use in the Virgin Islands. The battery keeps losing charge in 14-18 hours. New Battery did not help. Alternator is good. No lights are on, but occasionally on very dark night, the lights in bottom of gauges (the park/neutral/drive light) appears to be on very dimly. It looks like a phosphorescence glow, not a real light. Removal ... Read More
I recently bought a used 2002 GMC Sonoma Crew Cab 4x4. The truck is loaded and the mileage and price were right. The only problem is that the Gas mileage sucks. Really sucks. I thing the truck is getting like 12mpg. Runs great but eats gas. Anybody got any suggestions. I am switching to AMSOIL and an AMSOIL air filter soon. I hope that will help.
I have the following problems with my 2002 GMC Sonoma w/ ZR7 package. 1) Windows warp out and windows can't be closed. This occurs when it is above 90 degrees or below 20 degrees. I had have it back to the dealer 3 times and they can't seem to duplicate problem. 2) Engine has no upper end power above 3,000 rpm. I had a 1998 GMC Sonoma (same set up as ... Read More
I am thinking about picking up a new 2002 Ext cab 4WD S-10/Sonoma pu that my dealer has marked way down. It has the ZR2 package and seems like a nice little truck.
