Excellent Experience But…

Bought the car on-line and was very pleased with the on-line experience. BUT, was very disappointed that the dealership REQUIRED cash or a certified check. I have purchased many vehicles in my lifetime (75 years) and this was the FIRST time that my personal check was NOT accepted

Outstanding

I went on the 9th of April 2022 to order a 2022 Subura wrx, my first time at a Subura dealership the service was excellent. Especially in these difficult times no hidden fees or dealer mark up fees, even got money of the mrsp price. Mike Ramesar was excellent treated me with dignity and respect and was completely transparent throughout the whole ordering process, such a breath of fresh air knowing that there is good dealers out there, that know how to treat their customers right.

The service department has a serious communication problem. They treat you like a robot instead of a person and they can’t answer questions. I love Subaru Foresters and have had four of them but will not buy another one because of the service department. I am new to the area for a year now. My previous dealer had a great service department but these service advisors and manager cannot come through on a promise. One problem I had two times was not filling the oil completely after an oil change. First time I had to add 2 quarts after checking my oil after refueling a few days after service. The second time I checked it later the same day after returning home from service and I had to add a quart. I can’t believe I paid $91.00 for an oil change and still had to put a quart of my own in. Also, one service advisor keeps trying to sell me the 60k mile service when I’ve had it done already. That is the most expensive service. I am so disgusted with that service department. There are other issues too.

Highly recommend Abel Aguilar at McDaniels Subaru

Past Experiences... I have bought quite a few vehicles but the purchases are not an everyday occurrence. It can be quite difficult to navigate the wheeling and dealing that often leaves one questioning if they have been able to get a good deal. I am fairly diligent in my research but I still feel I have been hood winked on more than one occasion into paying more than I should in the past. Typically, when I walk into a dealership and the sales agent is diligently trying to grease my wheels for their commission it and it leaves me feeling exploited. I believe it does not give me a good fighting chance to purchase the vehicle I want for the price that I am willing to pay. I will not purchase a vehicle from the dealership when I face this scenario. Also, I feel that there is often an unspoken assumption that because I am a woman I can be deterred from my objective to get what I want and for what I want it for. I do my research because I want a fair price. After all, a vehicle starts depreciating as soon as you drive it off the lot. Needless to say I have walked away from many a vehicle for the poor negotiating practices, pushiness and lack of overall customer service. Non of the scenario above was the case at McDaniel’s Subaru on Killian Rd in South Carolina. MY EXPERIENCE AT MCDANIELS SUBARU I walked into the dealership and was immediately greeted by one of the managers who called the sales agent. I had previously set up an appointment online with the dealership to save myself the pain of dealing with hungry sales agents. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANYONE SHOPPING FOR A VEHICLE TO DO THIS! From the beginning Abel Aguilar was the utmost professional and extremely knowledgeable about the product he sold. He is so good in fact that I came in looking to test drive a used Acura RDX and the next day I came back for a 2019 Subaru Outback. A car I never even considered when deciding on my next vehicle. Abel was never pushy, rude or obtuse. As a matter of fact, I requested to test drive the Subaru because I had never driven one before. Abel is a laid back, straight shooter, and as I mentioned before, a knowledgeable sales agent. Any questions I had, such as on functionality, mechanical dependability, reported issues, etc he was able to answer and address. When he did not know the answer, he immediately went to the source to get answers. I had a good competitive bid (DO YOUR RESEARCH) so that made the negotiations painless for me. Abel brought the offer to his manager and after some consideration and discussion among them they agreed. The paperwork was done in no time and there was little to no waiting time. Abel displayed excellent time management skills and focus. To see this capacity and skill from someone so young is impressive. As a retired Veteran, part of my duties included mentoring troops to develop this kind of discipline. I can tell you that I do not come into contact with the efficiency, professionalism and motivation he displayed very often. You are blessed to have such a valuable member as part of your team. I am thankful for such a positive and professional group at McDaniels Subaru. I hope I can enjoy my Subaru Outback for many years to come.

Requested repair was not made. This was likely due to poor communication between the front desk and the technician. I clearly described the problem and the condition under which it occurred. When I was told that no problem could be found I took the service manage to the car and immediately demonstrated the problem.

They quoted one price for a repair on the phone and when I picked up my car it was about $100 more...with no explanation. I would not recommend this dealer to anyone.

Avoid McDaniels Subaru in Columbia, SC

Spoke to James H (internet sales rep) on the phone about buying a new Subaru and agreed on a price. Made it clear that the price included everything paid to the dealer other than tax/title. Arrived at the dealership to find McDaniels had added a $399 processing fee to the price we had agreed on. Mr. H claimed he had told me about the fee, which he had not. Got tired of being jerked around after about 45 minutes, called a cab and walked out. Mr. H followed me outside still trying to sell me the car with the markup. McDaniels wasted 2 hours of my time and cost me $40 for a cab ride home. If Mr. H was unwilling to sell me the car for the price we had agreed on, he should have told me that on the phone. Very unhappy with the way I was treated.

Truly care about your experience!

Best car-buying experience I've ever had. I conducted everything but the pick-up and final processing over the phone. The salesman was quick to return my calls and was always in a great mood. I felt like they cared about my experience more than making money. The salesman also followed-up and genuinely cared about what I thought after the sale. Finance department was equally great, they gave me a great deal and were very honest and open. At no point did I feel the slightest pressure and they presented their extended warranties and maintenance plans honestly. I was frustrated that the car I was picking up had the dreaded "shimmy" upon the first test drive, but the dealership was quick to remedy the situation and ensure I was happy. The service department and the dealer claimed to not have any idea about the Technical Service Bulletin for that particular issue. I almost walked away at that point, but they offered to work on it to make sure it was fixed. Also, there were a few small scratches on the side I feel should have been noticed pre-delivery (I drove to a different state to pick-up the model I wanted), but they offered to have it touched up with no issue. Overall, the dealer worked hard to ensure that I was satisfied with the purchase and were quick to fix anything that I was unhappy with. They also gave me a great deal on the car!
