Dealership Sales Review

1.3 out of 5 starssales Rating
high price, no decent offer, blatant lies and insults
Written by siamond on 09/24/2010
I still can't believe it. We drove to the parking lot of said dealer (which is close to my home), the sales guy paid scant attention to us (I didn't mind, my wife thought this was rude). The test drive was ok, nothing special. The state of the (Subaru 2005 Outback) car wasn't that great, plenty of scratches all over the place. I came home, checked the price against Edmunds TMV, and figured out this was disconnected by several thousand dollars. I visited several other dealers, choices were somewhat limited, I found a really nice & more powerful car (Outback LL Bean 2005, similar mileage, better shape) for $1000 less. I e-mailed the first dealer, expecting to get a better offer, he refused, and claimed that the use of premium gas would be very expensive. I did the math, this wasn't quite true, and I also pointed out that it's ok to use regular gas if you don't mind losing a little bit of power. Then he claimed that using regular gas would damage the V6. Which is blatant lie #1 (as confirmed by more honest dealers). I asked again for a better offer, he kept deflecting the question. When I finally e-mailed him that this was the last time I would ask, he grudgingly said "I have between $100 and $500 of leeway", blatant lie #2 and totally useless proposal. He also said that my approach was all wrong, and I should go see him and negotiate and settle on the spot. When I told him he was off-base on both price and sales tactics, he became very flustered, claiming I should look at KBB instead of Edmunds for actual sales prices (blatant lie #3), and ended up insulting me pretty good. Some people should get a new job... Do yourself a favor, go see Planet Subaru in Hanover or Village Subaru in Acton. A MUCH more pleasant experience, and much better prices too. I settled with Planet Subaru today. Well worth the drive.
