Did you really negotiate?
Written by 08/25/2009
on My wife and I stopped by to see a car advertised on the web. We traveled over 1.5 hours to get there. After test driving the car we were invited into the showroom to negotiate a price. The sales person left us for around 10-15 minutes to negotiate a good price for us from the finance manager. When he returned he offered us the web price as if he had to work at getting there.
I understand web prices are generally $1 K to $2 K lower than sticker at the dealer. The disgusting thing was the fake negotiation and having to wait for it to occur. Of course, the dealer is willing to go down to the web price. They started to bargain as we got up to leave. Too late, guys.
My advice: wherever you go, know the web price of the vehicle so you can negotiate better. If you go to this dealer, make sure you are actually dealing. Don't be afraid to leave without buying.
