Re: Lease program for '07 Jetta 2.5L [Car_man]
by esquire415 on Sun Jun 03 11:36:25 PDT 2007
Hi Car_man, I wish you replied sooner. I already got the car. I feel like an idiot taking the car from the first dealer I visited that day! It was May 6 and I had until June 7 before I turn in my old Jetta (which still has 7k miles). They said they will take care of my last month's payment from my old lease and also the turn in fee of $350 (is this turn-in waived anyway by VW credit since I'm getting another VW?). So I caved in. I shouldn't have rushed because I'm now paying the amount of a car with a sunroof (although the one I got doesn't have one). I wanted to lease for 36 mos with 10k mi/yr (2.5L w/ pkg 1). VW Hayward gave me .00069 MF and 56% RV. Selling price of the car is $20,300. With license fee, doc fee, and acq. fee...the cap cost is $20,913. My tax rate is 8.25%. I put $500 down which pays for 1st month's payment. The dealer says they were losing $446 on this sale which I think is BS. My total monthly including tax and fees is $288 and change. As soon as I got home and my thinking settled in, I realized that my old lease is also $288/mo but I had a sunroof, leather seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated front seats. I also had 12k mi/yr. Granted that I put down $1200 and that the dealer added $1000 on my downpayment for the loyalty program, I still think that I had a great deal last time. So Car-man tell me, how much did it cost me for rushing in to get a new VW lease? BTW, how was the .00069 MF calculated in the price of the lease? Is that 1.66% x depreciation? Because it's not adding up. Another thing i'm upset about is that I believe the $750 rebate started on May 1st. The dealer didn't tell me anything about this rebate. Is this something I can bring up with VW credit and renegotiate after the fact? How does VW do it?
by benzoservceguy on Sat Sep 16 16:26:02 PDT 2006
A ? for car-man or any1 else: How too good to be true is the current lease promotion VW has on a Value Edition Jetta for $209.00/mo? Granted, you need to put down close to 2K ($1,954) which includes 1st mo pay plus acquision fee of $575 and down payment (cap cost reduction?) of $1,170. This car (very basic with manual tranz) is all we need for our older 18 yo daughter as her 1st car. How much will the REAL payment be if we live in SO CAL with a tax rate of 8.25%? If we up the mileage to 15K (instead of the 12/k per yr)how much more will it cost? And lastly, what is the actual selling price of the car, which money factor are they using??? (both wife & I have 730+ FICO) AND HOW DO THEY DO IT? Are we getting a raw deal or is it legit? THANKX for any help!!!

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to check into those "fees" to see what is buried in there. I was just a little surprised he came right out of the box with an offer like that on my internet lead. Granted, I had my price quote request sent to four local dealerships but I wasn't expecting a quote near invoice. Will let you know what I find.
Re: 2006 Jetta 2.0T in NC - buying experience & first impressions [spiveygb]
by martyt1 on Tue Oct 25 08:18:10 PDT 2005
Hey Spiveygb, I live in the Raleigh/Durham area and was wondering if you could tell me how many 2.0T Jettas they had on the lot in Durham and with what packages. I was in there about a month ago and they offered me $800 over invoice, granted that this was their first offer and I was not in a hurry to buy. Invoice price is a great deal and might go back if I can get it. Did you go to Leith VW in Cary and check out their inventory? Their online inventory is down. Thanks a lot. Martyt
Long leases
by kcram on Sun Nov 24 10:52:57 PST 2002
Hi dmvoss It's almost never a good idea to lease for more than 36/39 months. Any longer than that and you run the risk of overmileage and excess wear/tear. Granted, VW's basic warranty is 4/50, so the odds are better that you won't suffer a serious out-of-warranty repair. But you should seriously consider the financials of purchase vs 48-month lease if you really plan on keeping the vehicle that long. If you are leasing that long just for the lower payment, then you may need to consider a less expensive vehicle. kcram Host Smart Shopper and FWI Message Boards
Re: ADVICE ON PRICE & LONGEVITY-- USED PASSAT
by Car_man on Thu Aug 02 15:48:38 PDT 2001
Kiranarrise, I don't necessarily agree with the statement that you should walk away from this car if it is not a VW Certified Pre-Owned unit. There are plenty of good non-certified used cars out there. In fact, I know of many dealerships for many different vehicle manufacturers that don't even bother to go through the 200-whatever point inspection process they they supposedly do for all certified used vehicles. These dealers just treat them like they would any other used vehicle. The real advantage of Certified Used Vehicles is the extended warranty that they come with, but if you really want one you can just purchase one on your own. It is difficult to evaluate how much money a used car or truck is worth without actually seeing it. Vehicles' values will vary quite a bit depending upon what condition they are in and how many miles they have on them. Also, used vehicles can be worth considerably less money if they have been in a major accident or have had paintwork. However, if I had to guess, I would say that the Edmunds.com True Market Value price of $16,800 for a 1999 Passat GLS purchased at a dealership is fairly reasonable. Even though many people speak about the reliability problems that Volkswagens have had over the years. I think that the post-1998 model Passat has proven to be a fairly reliable car, minus a few electrical issues here and there. Granted, it's no Civic or Accord in terms of reliability, but few cars are. It is difficult to say exactly how long this Passat will last if you purchase it, but if its properly maintained this car should last quite a while. Overall the Passat is a pretty nice car.
