IF somebody reads this and does NOT go to McKinney Mazda (or any of their dealers) I feel like I have helped my fellow car buyer. This maybe an isolated incident, but I got the feeling it was not!
First let me say I was excited about trying to get my new Mazda CX-7 and McKinney Mazda was one of the few Mazda dealers that had something that I was looking for. Although the dealer was four hours away from where I lived, I called them up and made a deal (cash for clunkers). Because I could not get McKinney Mazda to Fax me the paper work (to get signatures), I kept calling, and called the night before to make sure we still had a deal, which they said yes, come on down. Although I had a little bit of doubt in the back of my mind (what kind of deal did not want a signed offer ASAP?), I was excited and still got up at 5 am and made the 4 hour drive to South Carolina.
When I got to McKinney Mazda, I was treated quite differently to say I was very disappointed, would be very mild. McKinney Mazda proceeded to everything that I read online that all the shady dealers do, from just outright annoying to flat-out illegal. After driving 4 hours I believe they thought they had me at their whims, and could do whatever they wanted. First ,they tried to change the deal that we worked out over the phone, saying that I could either have cash for clunkers or the cash back from Mazda, NOT both. When I pointed out that that was not how the law was written, they said it was just something I read on line and not true. Having a feeling that something like this might happen, I printed out the LAW beforehand and showed them what the LAW said on my print-out, I then asked them to SHOW me otherwise. They could not and played it off that the law was so new they did not understand it, I wanted to call BS (cash for clunkers is the biggest thing to happen for deals) and cannot believe they would not know this!
Then they come back with, well we have another offer for the car and it is higher than your offer. I said, I thought we had a verbal commitment, a deal on this car. They said we had no written signed documentation of them excepting my offer, but if I was willing to offer something higher for the car they would get it written up right away. I said I was not bidding on this car and that we had a verbal deal. They had to go back and talk to the manager (this always takes time). They came back 15 min, and said they sold the car to the other person, but work with me on this nice CX-9 (which did not qualify for cash for clunkers!). I told them this and tried to leave, they actually tried to stop me from going to my truck, I had to keep walking around TWO sales guys, with them fast talking the whole time. Right before I got to my truck, a manager came out and said if I was willing to pay FULL MSRP for the CX-7 they could get one here, but there was only one CX-7 left from Maryland to Florida, and they were the only ones that could get it! This really made me mad because I had printed all of the CX-7 cars out and knew where all the vehicles (and the dealers) were located, and told him he was a liar and left. I did get a phone call from them 15 min latter asking me to come back and see if we can work something out, not a chance!
I went to [another dealership] and was treated like a thinking human being , and got a much better deal on the CX-7 that I now drive, quite happy with them.
