Caught in a Southern Pines whirlwind

by sadsackette on 12/15/2017

My husband (age 78) and I (wheelchair bound because of MS) wanted to get our son a truck . We were assured that the company was developing a part that would help me get into the truck, so we traded in our two paid in full autos for the truck. The details are too long to explain here, but two years and three vehicles later, we now owe our souls to the company and we feel that we have been taken on the royal screwmobile and are not at all satisfied. Bad Attitude

by crisnc on 07/04/2014

I thought car dealerships were supposed to want to sell cars. Adequate assumption, right? Apparently Michael Jordan Nissan has other priorities. Like not greeting customers and taking them for a test drive avoiding the highways after being told that highway performance was a priority. However, our salesman, James was nice and knowledgeable. I explained that I did not have my title and it was in a former married name, however, I have the court documents relinquishing the rights of my car (specifically listing the VIN) and I did not know where my ex-husband even was considering we divorced in 2005. The salesperson didn't think it would be a problem (and we were already assured it wouldn't be at another dealer) and went to get the financial manager to discuss the title and my trade in. Now when this guy shows up - his first words out of his mouth were extremely condescending and it went downhill from there. He kept speaking over me as I was explaining what type of documentation I had to tell me "I know how the DMV works and they won't care." He refused to even look at my car (which is in very good condition) because "it was a waste of [his] time." Additionally he told me not to go to another dealership until I have a viable title. He spoke to me as if I was 5 years old through the whole two minutes he talked AT me. With my dad sitting right there. As if we were beneath him. I understand that it is an unusual and difficult situation. But Sport Durst was confident that they could take care of it, perhaps at an additional cost. I am willing to go to the DMV myself but after he refused to "waste his time" looking at my car I won't waste his either. See ya.

Very pleasant experience

by rt1471 on 08/28/2013

My wife and I were in the market for the Pathfinder so I went on truecar and this was one of the dealerships that it found. Within the hour, I received a phone call from Michelle who said she sent an email with all the pricing/rebate information. I asked her if she could go over it on the phone and she said sure! I told her I would review her email and get back to her. Her email had 3 pricing options laid out and the price was BETTER than what came up on truecar. (with one of the rebates, depending on how you financed it). She was very easy to work with, knowledgeable and there was no pressure whatsoever! A completely different buying experience then what I am used to. We wanted a color that she didn't have on her lot so she was able to find one at another dealer. My wife then changed her mind at the last minute on the color and MIchelle found that one without a problem, which ended up not having the tow package which lowered the price of the car to even more than the original quote. When we were presented with the out the door price, it was a bit higher than expected because they were going to charge me $500 for getting the car from another dealership but ended up waiving that for me. Ultimately, my wife was undecided on this and another 7 pass SUV and she went with that one. But, I have nothing but respect and praise for Michelle and this dealership. She was almost more excited then I was for me to get this vehicle from them. If this was without question the car my wife wanted (and it's all up to her, you know how it is) then I could have easily had this deal wrapped up within the hour of submitting the truecar request. It was that easy. I would recommend this dealer and Michelle if you are looking for a Nissan in this area.

A top-notch salesman and service

by Alice_Rickard on 01/09/2013

My experience at Michael Jordan Nissan in Durham, NC was very rewarding both in the vehicle and the service I received. Tony P., the salesman, was very knowledgeable in helping me locate a better deal and vehicle than I had thought about. He was very personable and patient. Tony made my buying experience pleasurable!

Buyer Beware! Shop around or you will regret it

by chapelhilldan on 12/23/2011

I was in the market for a high-demand car and visited ONLY Michael Jordan Nissan because it's the closest dealer to my house. I made a HUGE mistake by believing the salesman who told me everyone else was selling the car at full list price (just like they were). The very next day after I signed the deal (but with the car still on order), I came to find out that another local Nissan dealer is selling the exact same car for $1600 below list. I had made a $1600 mistake by buying from Michael Jordan Nissan. I felt sick. When I brought this to the attention of the salesman and then the Sales Manager and asked if they could offer me "some kind of accommodation", they would not budge one inch and would not let me out of the deal. At one point in our heated phone discussion the Sales Manager told me "I don't want your business ... come over and take your money back", but then he immediately mentioned that there would be a $1,000 "restocking fee". Keep in mind that this is a vehicle with a waiting list of several months where I am positive they could resell the car immediately! Also at one point in the discussion the salesman mentioned that they had lost some deals lately because yet another dealer was selling the car for a discount even greater than the $1600 discount that I heard about. His point was that every deal is different, but my take-away was that he KNEW he was ripping me off relative to "market price". I will admit that Michael Jordan Nissan did not break the law, but their reaction to this situation showed me that they care about NOTHING other than money ... their top priority is extracting every last cent out of every customer. As soon as it became apparent that their "every deal is different" explanation wasn't working with me, the sales manager turned incredibly nasty and unprofessional and showed their true colors. Needless to say, after this experience I will never buy a car from Michael Jordan Nissan. My advice is to do your homework before you visit or they WILL take advantage of you. And NEVER take a car salesman at his word! While I can't call them crooks, they are definitely not the "good guys".

Good Customer Service

by jjz2114 on 10/26/2011

I recently moved to NC and did not have a car but knew I needed to get one ASAP. I looked up reviews on small, good value cars and sent emails to several dealers. I received a call from Lisa at Michael Jordan Nissan the next day and she was very helpful, knowledgeable, and pleasant both on the phone and in-person. I appreciated the above and beyond customer service displayed when she offered to pick me up from my apartment (a 25 minute drive) to bring me to the dealership even though there was no promise of a purchase on my end. I felt comfortable looking around at the different options and asking questions. Once I decided on a vehicle, Lisa expedited the paperwork process and never made me feel like I was left hanging. The only reason it's not 5 stars is that upon reflecting on the process and experience, I felt like they pushed me into getting the extended service plan. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was presented with two options - the regular service plan and the upgraded level of the plan. There was no option of not getting an extended plan presented to me so I don't actually know how expensive this decision was. I understand it's all a part of the process of trying to get a good sale and bumping the price up, but I felt a little swindled (in the future, I know to keep a clear mind about these things - this conversation about the service plan happened at the very end of the buying process). Again, this was the only gimmicky part of an otherwise pleasant buying process.

Michael Jordan Nissan Went the Extra Mile - and Then Some.

by rcway on 12/01/2010

We had an absolutely wonderful experience with our sales contact, Lisa. Lisa was exceedingly patient and extremely helpful. As we shopped with other dealers, Lisa kept us informed of new vehicles and options as they came available without being pushy or pesky. She offered services and assistance well and above what we experienced with other dealers around the Triangle. Thank you for that, Lisa. The sole reason we did not purchase our vehicle from Lisa and Michael Jordan was proximity to our home. Durham is simply a 45-55 minute drive through potentially dense traffic. The distance for routine service would have been a bit much. We wound up purchasing from a dealer in Apex.

MJ is no slam dunk!!!!

by rjp1130 on 12/20/2008

We all know that five minutes at dealership turns into 2 hours. The first thing they did was low balled my trade-in. When I finally walked out, the only thing they agreed on was my trade-in value which was the same number I mentioned when I walked in. They refused to take a nickel off the sticker price. The funny thing was my wife and I were the only customers in the place.
