Thanks Vchad, Based on my calculations on what the dealer offered me, I was coming in at approx $510 a month (which included tax). My response to the dealer and their subsequent reply is as follows: ME: I've run my own lease calculation analysis and for some reason I'm coming up with a much lower monthly payment than what you have noted below. With a base cap cost of 47,044 and a net cap cost of 45,994 (47,044 - 1050 down) and using the .00085 money factor with 8.5% sales tax on a 27 month lease, I'm coming up with a payment of $510.92 which includes the taxes. Based on this, I have a depreciation amount of 10,852, with a finance charge of 1,862 and tax of 1,170. DEALER: You are missing a few things but I cannot tell you how your software works. I will be more than happy to show you my software when you get here. Your adjusted cap cost before you take out your down payment is $48, 682.84 You did not factor in the 1095 acquisition fee, 45 doc fee, your dmv lisence of $381 and the bluetooth adaptor of $510 which I included in your lease. I have no idea how, based on the initial deal they presented that they came up with a $48,682 adjusted cap cost. Thanks for the heads up on the moneyfactor.

Got the E350 4 Matic Sport with Premium 1, ipod, Wood Steering at advertised MB summer sale discount plus employee pricing discount in NJ. 27 month 12K/year lease @ $435/mo includes taxes, $1930 out of pocket. Got the employee discount because i'd the MB MVP #... the dealer treated us royally over and above what i'm used to at such dealerships... Negotiated a similar deal with slightly lower payment in Portland, ME for SIL. Maine has 5% sales tax against NJ's 7%. I noticed that irrespective of metallic paint or not, the deal was working out the same. Mine is metallic paint. Overall a pleasant experience, but i'd like to complain a bit... $500 for an idiotic little bluetooth interface? Can they make the COMMAND module any more crazier? Can they learn from Acura/Lexus? The harmon kardon sound system is quite anemic and i'm not talking about watts of power put out, it is just sound quality poor The car despite the sport package is mushy at best, i think i prefer the bmw road feel much much more but hey, sometimes you buy cars because our shallow world evaluates you by what you drive... meh!

John, you are obviously an intelligent guy who makes a good living. But why go thru all these hassles. If you just BOUGHT the damn car you would have only one variable (the bottom line cost) to worry about, not residuals, money factors, etc. etc. Moreover, smart as you are, why not just BUY a two to three year old unit? Re: sales people's intelligence. I don't agree that the typcial sales guy should understand discounted cash flow analysis and I wouldn't trust his analysis anyway. But how about acquiring some basic product knowledge? Most of the ones I have met have never, ever, even "built" a car on the manufacturer's web site and have little grasp of which options are available for which model, etc. Call 10 Audi sales guys and ask if the performance seats are availalble as a stand alone option. Few know. Re: Julius' store in Greenwich. They have chosen a low profit margin path. This defeatist strategy is not my problem. Apparently, from what Julius says, they sell about 6 times as many low margin new units as high margin used cars. Why? I'm convinced that new car dealers sell far more new than used not only because of factory pressure but also because the average sales guy can't sell a USED car and so the store doesn't even try to hire anyone but willing new car order takers. Wiscasset Ford in ME is probably the biggest Ford dealership in New England. How do they sell so many new cars? Well, they are in a very rural area with low wages. Their new car sales guys are literally just $10-12 an hour order takers which saves the dealership money. They have almost no used cars.
