Trimming the Truth and Cutting Corners in Sales
Written by klvairagya on 06/15/2009
Had a most unsettling experience when shopping for a hybrid car. We told the sales man that we were looking for a new car, a 2009, because we were interested in a zero-interest financing offer on these 2009's. Salesman told us that they had two 2009's that were being used as loaners that were available at a good price, with full warranty. Went to see them. Salesman said that they had recently sold thirty of the 2009 models that were sought, largely due to the zero % financing. Said that zero % financing is why we came. Apparently this went right by him. He showed us the 2009 cars, without even mentioning that these were ineligible for the financing deal. We paid a deposit for one car, spent much time talking about arranging to have license plate transferred and getting insurance, etc. After filling out paper work, when we saw that saleman had indicated that the car was "used, and asked him about that, he merely said yes, they considered it used. He said that the manager wasn't available then, but would call us about financing details. At no time was it stated by him that the 2009 cars with low mileage were not eligible for the zero % financing. The manager would call us about the financing. After going to the bank, getting a certified check for the major part of the down payment, we called the sales manager, as he had not gotten back to us. When we reached him, we began to go over the figures and my wife and I were surprised when he rapidly mentioned 5.8 % interest on the financing. When we told him that that was not what we had been led to believe, that is was never mentioned that the car was used, he said stolidly that the interest was 5.8% because the car was considered used. Manager refused to offer us any other deal. He said that he would talk to his boss and call us back. He never called back. Went back to the dealer, said to the assistant manager that, all along the financing had been crucial, and regretted that we had been misled. Manager said little. Salesman danced around and tried to say that he had told us the 2009 was used. Asked for our deposit and license plate back and left. As we left, the saleman said that there were "no new 2009 models left in New England" that had the package of features that we wanted. This was patently untrue for we had encountered several the day before. I would not recommend Lexington Toyota sales department to anyone. Not one person we spoke to showed any sense of respect for the truth -- let alone desire to serve customers decently. They are not honorable business people. If you do not want to waste your time or be gulled, avoid Lexington Toyota. Completely unsatisfactory.
