Dealership Sales Review

2 out of 5 starssales Rating
Their prices are WAY above book value
Written by chxfryer on 10/05/2007
I was interested in a '03 Honda Accord V6. I gave them the keys to my car to find out what I could get for a trade in at this point. After a test drive I wanted to see what the payments would be. About 10 minutes later, my sales person came back and said they wanted $19,900 for the car and monthly payments of $450. I said I can't do that. So they tried to get me to add more months the loan to decrease the payment amount. Finally, I was fed up and asked for my keys back. My sales person did not bring my keys to me, he brought a "lot manager". He asked what he could do to sale me the car? I said nothing, I am not paying 20,000 dollars for a 5 year old car. After a while he brought the price down to around 17,000 dollars. I said I would have to go home and check a few things (insurance, budget, what not). He did let me take the car for a couple hours even though a different salesman was "demoing" it. At home I did a kbb price check on the car, in perfect condition it was worth $16,900. This was a nice car, but not in the excellent category. So, I decided to return the car right then and there. When I got back, he wouldn't give me my keys back till I told him why I didn't want the car. I didn't want to say anything but he forced me into it. I told him I didn't appreciate him trying to rip me off. He went back to his office, came back with his kbb price check and my keys. His said it was worth 16,500 dollars, but tacked on was about 15 hundred dollar "reconditioning fee" a "millage adjustment" charge and some other obscene charge. I took my keys and left, NEVER to return. I mean come on, the car was worth less than $16k in its condition, they wanted 19.9k? Plus they charge the customer just to get the car close to the excellent category? By the way, those cars you see on tv, the $79 down, $149 a month, those are real and there. Just you have to have a credit score of 800 to get those prices. This came straight from the salesman's mouth. Want a car? Go some where else and do your home work before buying!
