Great Service Experiences!
Written by iangela on 11/29/2007
When I took my 1997 328iC in for the long "Inspection 2" service shortly after I purchased the car, I wasn't sure what to expect from Newbold, but they really impressed with their outstanding service! After all, my car isn't exactly the priciest and nicest BMW around (although it is in great shape). Blaine had a free loaner, a 2006 X5, waiting for me, which is quite the upgrade. Check-in was quick and I was back to work in no time. He called me a few hours later with the news that a couple of power steering lines were leaking but "they don't really need to be replaced," as the leaks were small and wouldn't be a safety concern. Wait, did a dealership service department just tell me a leaking line didn't have to be replaced? They're passing up the chance to earn some cash! I went ahead and had the lines replaced, and picked the car up the next day, washed and ready to go. That was the first service call, and it left a great impression on me. The second visit was a few months later, when I realized the thermostat wasn't working, and Illinois winters are chilly in a ragtop with a nonfunctioning heater! I had a few other issues cleared up, while driving a new X3 with heated seats and steering wheel. I swear they want me to buy the new ones. Anyway, the car was fixed in a day, and was washed and waiting for me when I showed up. The final visit to Newbold was for a stubborn CEL. I had been having the local AutoZone reset it for free, since I figured it was just the fuel cap leaking a bit. Then Illinois hit me for an emissions test, so I had to take it in for a permanent fix. Blaine once again had a nice loaner waiting for me, a 2007 328i. He called the next day after they had smoke-tested the emissions equipment, and told me there was a vapor collection tank with a cracked neck that needed replacement. OK, plastic gets brittle after 10 years. They didn't have the part, so they extended the free loaner and a week later I picked up the car. The CEL has not illuminated since then, and I passed the emissions test a week later. I've had very positive experiences with Newbold, both for my BMW and for my Toyota Sienna (they sell and service both). Their prices are reasonable, they're good about not charging labor for items when they've already got your car torn apart, and they give me a military discount on parts. Highly recommended.

"Then Illinois hit me for an emissions test," Sorry. No emissions tests in Illinois. Must be in the wrong state....i live 2 miles from newbold, been living here for 11 years, never have i taken my car to do an emissions test. if you live in Missouri and you're telling me you come all the way from Missouri to do maintenance on your BMW in Ofallon, IL you MUST be lying. There are more BMW dealerships that are closer and more convenient.

Illinois DOES have emissions testing, and has had for years. Please check the Illinois Secretary of State and the Illinois EPA websites. O'Fallon is excluded so far from this requirement. However, Swansea and Collinsville are just a few of the cities in the surrounding area where emissions testing IS required, and they have testing facilities. Our customer base goes far beyond the 62269 zip code including into Missouri.
