Fit gives less for your money? by jkandell on Sat Jul 07 08:20:51 PDT 2007

Because the Fit was so "hot" I couldn't negotiate and purchased at msrp, like most of us here. Even so I consider it fairly priced considering the versatility and Honda reliability. I've recently been rethinking things after a relative told me he just purchased an 08 Corolla LE for $17000 out the door with a trade-in of an 86 Camry--$800 more otd than I paid for my barebones MT Fit with no add ons. I was surprised how many more features his "vanilla" Corolla had compared to mine: vehicle stability control with traction control and brake assist; tire pressure monitoring; six CD player w six speakers; cruise control; daytime running lights; optitron display showing outside temp, coolant temp among other; two map lamps; seat height adjustment; remote fuel cap release; two 12 v jacks; tilt steering wheel, etc. From what I can gather the only things I had over him with my Fit were mpg, six airbags (he has two but does have an extra reinforcement bar on the side door) and the magic seats. Granted, not everyone will get such a good deal on a Corolla (he was in the right place at the right time at end of month); but my point is these types of negotiating opportunities exist for other cars but not for the Fit. And I'm not trying to turn this thread into 'Fit vs. Corolla' (it's just an example), and I still love my car. But I'll admit what he got for his money compared with mine made me rethink my purchase. He got at least 50% more car for the same money. It will be interesting to see what price the Fit goes for once American production kicks in and there are plenty of them and supply meets demand. I'm guessing $2000 less?

Re: 2007 EXL-RES and NAVI Price in Orange county, CA [manly] by jstephens1 on Wed Feb 07 15:10:24 PST 2007

You may also want to check-out Norm Reeves Honda in West Covina. There is an asian lady in internet sales I dealt with in December. I traveled from the Phoenix, AZ area, no "surprises", very honest and I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone in Cali., AZ. or Nevada.

Odyssey EX-L w/ XM radio add-on by jstephens1 on Mon Jan 29 18:26:48 PST 2007

Last month I walked out of the Honda dealership in Avondale, Arizona. Intially, they provided the best price in the Metro Phoenix area beating their competitors by over $800. I spoke with the internet manager a number of times before visiting the dealership making it clear I didn't want any add-on "surprises" or I"d walk. Despite his assurances his "partner" attempted to pass on over $600 in accessories I didn't ask for. I thanked them for their time before walking out. When I returned home that Saturday, I e-mailed about 15 dealerships in S. California. After receiving maybe 4 responses in 2 days, I had the pleasure of speaking with an asian women in internet sales at Norm Reeves Honda in West Covina. She was extremely honest and very professional. She saved me nearly $1300.00 after travel expenses with a price of $27,443 before taxes and fees. Doc fees in California are almost $45 compared to about $350 here in AZ. I'd highly recommend the asian women in internet sales at Norm Reeves Honda, West Covina. It took about a week after my initial request for quotes before the other CA dealerships responded but they all eventually trickled in. I wanted the NAV system but decided the extra expense in my case would be unwise since I'd have no use for RES. From what I've read on the PAX tires, I'm glad I didn't go with the Touring which was my original choice. Thanks to everyone in this forum for all the information which was extremely helpful. I visited family near Panama City FL during C'mas and New Year's averaging about 24.5 mpg on the highway.

Re: Buying Experience [imdone] by jkandell on Wed Jan 03 20:36:38 PST 2007

I can totally relate to wanting to deal with a dealer with basic integrity. While it could be a simple mistake it sure sounds like they sold the same car to two people, quite deceitful. However, I don't think this has to do with Honda or Nissan or any other make, but rather the individual dealership. I was surprised how different all the dealers styles were whom I solicited. Some were straightforward, some were classic car salesmen with every second word full of sh-t, and others were somewhere in between. The truth is auto sales is not the den of integrity, even at best. However as long as you keep your ethics, as you did, you can eventually find a dealer whose style matches your own. Enough to make a purchase anyway.

Re: Phoenix, AZ dealers [moosejaw3] by srjones70 on Thu Aug 10 13:45:18 PDT 2006

Thanks for the update and I couldn't agree more. Since I posted my original message I have contacted 4 dealers in Phoenix via the internet. Based on these conversations and negotiations, Right Honda's Fleet Internet Dept. is on top. Very straightforward, low pressure, and appears honest. Everything has gone so well that I will be finalizing the purchase of an EX-L this Saturday. I'm confident that I won't have any surprises when inking the deal on Saturday.
