Bait & Switch with shameless business ethics

by Michael on 10/23/2023

I was unfairly solicited by the sales manager Ray Alcazar at Victory Toyota of Seaside. Initially, I contacted a sales rep Nathan Zeeb in the morning of Oct 22 regarding a certified pre owned vehicle post on the Toyota Pre-owned site. Its a 2020 Toyota Camry with VIN 4T1C11AK0LU990592 and price was lower than the typical market value, thus I was very interested in acquiring the car. On the phone with Nathan, we explicitly discussed this specific car, confirmed by Nathan when he looked up the matching VIN number between the website and the dealer system, and confirmed its availability. We arranged for a meet up at 3PM on the same date to finalize the car purchase. Note that I was 2.5 hours driving away from the dealer. At noon, Nathan's manager, Ray Alcaraz followed up with a text: "Hello Minh! My name is Ray Alcazar, Sales Manager at Victory Toyota. Just wanted to quickly introduce myself and confirm your appointment today 10/22/2023 with Nathan to go over Camry options. Does 3PM still work for you? Reply YES to confirm, or reply STOP at anytime to end." I confirmed the appointment and headed out, assuming we will finalize that specific car i was interested in. Upon arrival, Nathan and Ray attempted to upsell me in much more expensive car and excused that the specific car i was looking for was no longer available due to various reasons ranging from operational glitch, system malfunction, staff incompetence in checking availability, etc. In short, each person gave different reason when i managed to question each of them separately. Notable things: -The car might still be available, but as they realized the price could be higher, they came up different excuses to not sell the specific car -Business ethic was clearly lacking when they clearly know the car was not available but still willing to tricked me to drive 2.5 hours, just so they have another chance to upsell me other vehicle at the expense of customer precious time and effort. Thats 5 hours of wasted time on a Sunday afternoon when i could had spent it with my family.

Avoid Victory Toyota

by Rigo V on 02/09/2021

Last month I was super excited about making my fourth Toyota purchase in 12 years but it was my first time purchasing at Victory Toyota at Seaside, Ca. I arrived at the dealership with having done research on the vehicle I wanted and knew exactly what I would drive off with and what it would cost me. I did a test drive then looked at the manufacturer suggested retail price which was clear in the asking price. The sales person told told me that the real price “ dealers asking price” was the price listed beside the manufacturer sticker, which had some overpriced unnecessary add-ons like, $200 wheel locks, $700 clear shield package, $300 nitrofill on the tires, $2000 ELO gps system (useless because it just tracks your vehicle and “gives dealer wireless access to diagnose your vehicle”). I demanded those add-ons to be removed but then they dropped the price to $300 for everything. When I got to finance the woman recommended that I purchase extended warranty and maintenance and some Doc Car membership that totaled up about $4,000. I agreed. Days later after I read the fine print and realize that the overall benefit was not worth the money and also considering that I have to return the car ONLY to there dealerships to get service done in order to not void terms and agreements clearly stated in the contract. I returned to the dealership to remove and requested refund since the purchaser has 30 days after purchase to get 100% refund. At that point every person I encountered told me I couldn’t cancel it until I showed them the signed contract that is enforceable by law. They refund me but were not happy about it. Later, not even one month after owning my Toyota the driver side power outlet goes out. I open the owner’s manual and check the recommended fuses to troubleshoot the issue, but the fuses were all good. I return to the dealership and they charge me $100 to look at the car for 5 mins and tell me that I must return in a few days to replace the power outlet and they told me that the issue was my fault so I will have to pay $70 for the outlet replacement plus $100 again for the install. I told them that I wanted them to file a manufacture warranty claim. They assured me they will. I returned for the repair and they replaced it in 10 mins then they told me that they processed the warranty claim but I still had to pay. I called Toyota experience line 1 (800) 331-4331 to confirm that the warranty claim was filed but it was not. I then escalated the issue directly with Toyota and gave them feedback on the dealer, service center and my new vehicle. This case is being investigated and I will update this review with any results. I will never return to Victory Toyota, Seaside, Ca or any of there other dealership to service or purchase a vehicle again. As a loyal Toyota brand owner with a lot of experience purchasing from multiple dealerships around the Bay Area I can say that this dealership isn’t living up to Toyota’s service experience and purchasing standards. They take advantage of peoples ignorance in lack of knowing about car repairs and sales and warranties. Some of the workers are nice people, like my sales person and the finance woman but the problem in my opinion starts with high level management. The workers just have to do as they are told which in my opinion is the root issue of the entire operation.

Terrible Encounter

by Disappointed on 02/18/2018

I went to Victory Toyota for basic 35,000 mile service on my Camry. Danny the service adviser is everything but a good service adviser. I got in before 8am without an appointment and there were no other customers. At first he told me that it would take an hour, and if I wanted to wait for it. I walked towards the waiting room where you wait. At 9am as I was outside looking at the new cars when I noticed they pulled up my car, washed and ready to go. I walked towards the good advisers desk and sat down and waited for him to return. After a few minutes he returned and asked me to go back to the waiting room because he is already with someone else, even though there was no one with him. I walked back to the waiting room a waited another 30 minutes, I got up and went to look to see what he is doing, he was still alone. I wanted to see if my car was still there and noticed they had taken it away. I asked where my car was and they said they had to park it. Now it's nearly 10am and I am very angry, I walked up to Danny and asked him why my car is still not ready and he replied "well that's what happens when you don't have an appointment" and very angry, I replied maybe I should not come here anymore, and the good adviser replied "maybe you shouldn't". I saw my regular adviser and asked her to finish my paperwork, because I did not want to talk to Danny anymore, she said she would have my car pulled back up, and for me to wait some more. After waiting more I decided to get into my car and leave. As I walked through where the advisers sit I heard one of them ask Danny is his paper work done? I said my patients are up and got into my car and left. When I got home I tried to contact the service manager but had to leave him a message. The good service manager called back and instead of being apologetic, he turned it back on me and said, I was not professional. I guess the good service manager expected me to be professional and not his staff.

MIssed Check Engine light during 35K maintanance

by Dan_from_Marina on 09/30/2017

I took my Prius V in for a scheduled 35K maintanance. The check engine light was on. Everyone was very friendly, the maintanance was done early. The checklist was all OKs. I picked up my car and drove off. While on the road, I noticed the check englne light was still on, so I returned to the dealer. They got the car in right away and it took 30 minutes to discover 'the gas cap was loose' (according to them) and the CSR chided me for not making sure it was tight when I refueled. However, the multipoint inspection sheet includes checking 'Fuel Tank cap gasket' and it was checked OK. If they checked it during the inspection, and re-installed it correctly, why was the Check Engine light still on? If they did NOT check on the original inspection, why did they check the box as OK? If the check engine light had another cause, why did they tell me it was a loose gas cap? Either way, I have lost trust in their service department. How can I trust that anything they said on the inspection checklist was true? How can I trust anything they told me after discovering it when I returned with the car was true? I used to have great confidence in their service department, no longer.

Great Car! Great Experience! Great Price! - Thanks Mario!

by GreatExperience-GreatPrice on 09/17/2017

My Wife and I bought a lightly used 2016 Avalon Limited from Mario Upshaw yesterday. Mario was a complete pleasure to work with along with the General Manager George Czechowski. The car is a fantastic deal, the process was very pleasant. No high pressure. The car had 10,000 miles on it but felt new. Mario and George treated us like friends and the deal was more than fair! I would quite sincerely recommend these folks to anyone.

Where car dealers earn their (poor) reputation.

by fuelmiser1 on 03/26/2010

I purchased a certified Toyota from Victory Toyota at the end of 2009. The car has been good and the price, after haggling was also good. I would have given them three stars based on the sale alone, but the after sale customer service was horrible. I dealt with John Sercia, the internet sales person, who bordered on uninterested during the sale, and he was not friendly nor unfriendly. During financing I dealt with George Czechowski, a chipper young fellow who was professional but quick. I got a decent price for the car and would give them 3 stars based on that alone. We get down to one star because after the sale I had two minor issues with the car. And I did receive a total of three "form letters" from salesperson John Sercia after the sale asking me to call him if I had any issues. So I did, but he never once returned my calls. Finally I called Larry Cartmill, the used car manager, who was rude but efficient and quickly resolved both issues but also never called me back to give me an update. I've purchased three different cars from dealers and this dealership was average during the sale and by far was my worst experience after the sale. If you are thinking about Victory Toyota, don't, there are dealers in Salinas and San Jose who will treat you the same, maybe better, and you'll probably get the same or maybe better price
