Incompetence and dishonesty

onI took My Eurovan 2002 to Southern CA and the heater core broke. The local dealer there replaced the heater core but in doing so damaged the front panels and re-installed the dash incorrectly causing a high pitched sound to come from the air vents. The dealer agreed to pay for the damages at my local dealer which was Boardwalk. My own independent mechanic estimated the work to be $1500, Boardwalk estimated closer to $3000, $450 of which they charged me for replacing a fan that did not need changing. When asked what if the fan did not fix the problem they said they would take it back (I have it in writing). Needless to say that did not fix the problem. They dragged their feet in and resisted to reinstall the dash despite the fact that the Southern CA dealer had agreed to pay. My strong suspicion is their foreman had never done this before and was afraid to touch it for fear of further damage. The kicker is they charged the Southern CA dealer $800 for re-installation of the dash and are refusing to return the money to me, for something they never did, so I can have my own mechanic fix the problem. Worst of all after months of dealing with them over this issue they have changed their story so many times that I have no trust in them anymore. They are saying that although the fan did not fix the problem it needed to be replaced. They are shameless in making claims about the fan and charging $800 for something they never did since they do acknowledge that there is still a noise problem but they want me to pay for it ($2000). This crosses the line of decency and integrity in a business. I have reported this incident to VW of America. As a loyal VW owner (I have owned 5 VW's and encouraged my family and friends to own one) I am turned off completely since if I can't trust the dealer I can't justify buying another VW.
