Shady dealership, steer clear.

by T on 08/18/2021

I went through Sam's Club Car Buying Service which is hosted by Truecar. The whole point of using this service is to avoid any games and lack of transparency by the dealership. Below is the certificate I received from Sam's/Truecar: Member Price Summary Advertised List Price $18,000 Dealer Discount - $350 Your Member Price $17,650 Dealer Document Preparation Charge + $85 Total Dealer Fees & Accessories + $85 Total after Dealer Fees & Accessories $17,735 As you can see the total is $17,735 including all dealer Fees and accessories. Unfortunately, this dealership engages in shady and unethical business practices, and they will try to add over $2000 for a ridiculously priced clear coat that you can not opt out of, even though it is not mentioned on the certificate. Of course the first thing the salesman will say to you is that we are a very upfront and transparent dealership. Obviously not true. They will do everything they can to get you into their shady dealership, but if they truly wanted to be honest and transparent, they would price their cars without these unnecessary add ons in the first place. Steer clear and take your business elsewhere.

Great experience!

by esmith1805 on 02/13/2012

Bought a car for my wife. Negotiated everything via e-mail, went in and signed the paperwork. Very easy and no messing around. Mike Wester was great to work with and very friendly. We got a great price. I would definitely recommend to friends.

Bait and Switch

by homer21 on 06/22/2011

My wife and I went to the HB VW dealership because we were emailed a deal by Kelly on a 2011 Tiguan SE. However, the email did not state any information about a specific deadline for this deal, except the disclaimer at the bottom that states that all deals sent via email expire after 48 hours. Assuming this was the case, my wife and I headed to the dealership the following day after work. However, when we arrived, we were told that the deal was no longer valid, and Kelly attempted to propose another deal, it was nowhere near the emailed offer. When we asked to speak with the general sales manager, Louis Palos, he told us that deals had no timelines and that it was based on the inventory of that day and the offer he was willing to give at that moment. Also I was shocked by Louis attitude. He was extremely rude to my wife and I, with the attitude that he did not care whether or not we purchased the vehicle. He quickly told us no matter what, the deal would not be honored and said the words "I don't care."

Highly recommend this dealer!

Go and see Bob Simmerman. He was the most down to earth, comfortable guy. He made buying a car easy. No game playing like I had at other dealerships. Thanks for my shiny new car!

Bait & Switch & More

by dahale on 04/25/2011

Look... I love my car and the price paid was competitive, but the pros of this major purchase stop there. I bought a used car from McKenna and did all the appropriate research online in advance. Their website indicates "contact our online sales rep" for the best pricing available only to the saavy online shopper. I did, they offered me an amazing price and then told me that price was a mistake when I got there. I was assured it was a mistake, not a bait and switch deal. The price offered in the end was not a bad price but it was not the one quoted. The car was not well prepped, with a number of obvious problems which should have been corrected. It is not a Volkswagen, so perhaps they just did not feel it was important. One of the rear window shades in the back was improperly opened by the salesman Kelly and slipped inside the door - gone until I figure out how to open the door and fix it. The nav system was frozen in Mexico, needed a new satellite antenna which was covered by the warranty on the car... stupid things that they just didn't care enough to handle. I was truly let down about a month later by McKenna. They had placed paper plates on the car. I assumed I would get new plates from the DMV. I did receive the registration, but no tags. I called and they said the plates were under the paper and all I had to do was remove the paper. I did and they had never placed a current 2011 sticker on the car so my plates were expired. Timing was bad, because I was getting ready to move. Their DMV rep told me she would send me a form and I would get the tags in four weeks or so... I told her that didn't work for me and she said she would call the Sales Manager. Never heard from them again. So I believe they did bait and switch me on price, did not appropriately service the car I purchased and really let me down on customer service and follow up. I would not recommend McKenna based on my triple strike experience!

Any easy sales process, great email communication

by aharperslp on 03/10/2011

They respond quickly answer all my questions via email, I hate talking to salesmen over the phone, so they addressed each of my concerns via email, and Danny was great, when I came in to test drive it was a easy process, and it was the least time I ever spent buying a car. We love our new Routan and our kids (and all there stuff) fit perfectly. Iwould recommend this dealer to anyone looking to buy a Volkswagen.

A++++++ NO COMPLAINTS HERE - ONLY TO OTHER DEALERS

by jackboxme on 02/27/2010

LOVED LOVED LOVED IT! Hated my experience at all the other dealers. Seemed like all of them tried taking advantage of me and basically wasted my time with lies. I avoided mckenna bc of all the bad reviews... I only wasted my time doing so. They were the only dealer that was straight forward. I got an AWESOME deal on my CC... almost $80/mo less than the other dealers... ya they were totally taking advantage. They guys at mckenna knew what they were talking about. I had a great experience and would recommend them to anyone I know. - Jack PS: I'll never trust bad reviews again =)

[violative content deleted]

by treel on 05/07/2009

WARNING: I bought a Certified Pre-Owned Car from this [violative content deleted] back in January 2009. They talked up this 2005 Anniversary Addition GLI Jetta and how they had just sold 5 the week before I purchased mine. They went into a whole pitch about their 20 gazillion point check certification process and how like new this car was. They raved about how great their service and reputation were. Within the first two weeks, I had to bring my car in. It rained and water POURED into my passenger side. It took them 2 days and a full dismantling of my car before they determined they need to replace some sunroof hoses. This process took them a week and when I got my car back, I had a new windshield (don't ask my why) and they had left various tools including a solar panel charger in my trunk. Bonus I guess, but I felt like they were my car had been in surgery and the surgeons had sewn up the patient and negligently left instruments inside. A week later, my battery made a loud pop and the AAA agent found they battery had exploded and disconnected. Coincidental that McKenna had just disconnect it a week before? I think not. Well here I am...less than 2500 miles into my ownership of the car and the "Check BrakePad" illuminates on my dashboard. I took it to the service department and they informed me I needed to get new brakes and routers!?! This [violative content deleted] is outrageous and a total sham. They are horrible to deal with and their service is sloppy. DO NOT Trust this dealership nor their service department!

awful experience. never go there!!!

by ohjeah on 11/05/2007

I was in the search for an 08 rabbit and this salesman named Reuben was helping me out. He seemed to be a friendly guy and was very helpful. That was until I came into the dealership and sat with him face-to-face. Before I got there, I told him over the phone about a quote I have received from a different dealership and he said he would beat it 100% so I drove down 40 minutes. When I asked him for the price, he said he won't be able to find out unless they get their hands on the car at the port. I should've known something was fishy and left but I took his word and waited. After running my credit and going through some paperwork, he finally brings me out the quote and it is way beyond what he said he would offer me. Off by more than 500, which is not a small deal since the car is only 17000 something msrp. So I said this isn't what he had promised me and he was giving me some bs reasons and saying that the other dealership is lying and all these crap about them and pressuring me to buy it since he spent hours working it out for me and sent a guy to the port to pick up the car. He also told me that the price he offered is 250 under invoice. Then he brings in his manager and this guy is professional and wasn't being pushy at all. He tells me that the previous quote was 250 over the invoice and he can sell it to me for invoice price. I then realized that this Reuben guy is constantly lying to me. So I called it off and told him I didn't wanna do it. Since the manager gave me a quote at invoice, it wasn't a bad deal. But I felt like I was dealing with a [violative content deleted] and a guy who has no integrity. He starts going off how I wasted all his time and money and now he couldn't even make lunch money and starts using the [violative content deleted]. I couldn't believe what was happening and he went on cussing me out and leaves the office staring me down. It was a horrible experience and it might sound like I'm making up a story but it is 100% true. Please don't go there. If you do, avoid this guy.
