Our First Subaru

Deceitful Claims about Their Used Car Inventory

Warning: DO NOT purchase a used vehicle from this dealership and be especially wary of the salesman named Bill M. I told Bill I wanted to take a 2017 Subaru Forester, VIN: JF2SJAWC3HH428284 for a pre-purchase inspection at a local Subaru shop, he hesitated and reluctantly agreed (I should have walk then). The garage inspected the car for app 30 minutes, then showed me FOUR serious issues which needed immediate attention: suspension bushings were torn or loose on all 4 corners, requiring new control arms. Brake rotors were so rusty that they caused a rotational dragging noise -needed new brake on all 4 wheels. An alignment was badly needed. In addition the AC blower motor needed replacement. The repairs would cost over $5K. When I asked Bill if he would fix it or discount the price so I could, he arrogantly replied absolutely not. I then asked him if he was going to place it back on the lot for sale without making the necessary repairs, he said "absolutely I am, there is no safety issues with the car and it has 90,000 miles", and that neither he or the dealership could possibly know that the car had these problems (despite the dealers inspection claim). Bill then lied 4 more times, one right after another, to avoid taking responsibility for his lies and deceit. AVOID!

2023 Subaru outback engine and electronics went haywire in the first 10 we owned it. JD the service manager went far beyond expectations to take care of us thru the process..

A Great Experience

I went to Gold Rush for a minor service on my 2022 Outback. The tech found an oil leak during the inspection and repaired it under warranty. I even got a loaner car to use since they needed to keep the car overnight. My car was ready the following day ahead of schedule. Great job!

Small town feel, excellent service.

We live in Roseville just about 5 miles from the Auto Mall. I used to bring our cars for service at the dealerships there. One time, I could not get a service appointment at the Auto Mall, I called Gold Rush Subaru and was able to secure one. That first experience of feeling they know and care for you at Gold Rushyou made me continue to bring our two Subaru's service to them.Small town feel, but excellent service.

They really treat you like Family!

I know it is an Oxymoron; “Trustworthy CAR-Salesmen”, but they really do exist at Gold Rush Subaru. I have purchased five cars and one lease from Gold Rush, and I will never go anywhere else. I have done comparison shopping, used True Value and Edmunds for car values and I have always gotten rock bottom pricing here. Paul Lanza always makes sure I get what “I WANT” and keeps me out of hot water. Then if it makes sense; meaning I am not losing money on my trade or getting in over my head (what car salesman ever did that for you?) Jim Sturgis cuts off the fat and gives me the best no pressure no haggle price on earth. Then there’s James Woolley who always goes the extra mile to make sure I get the best financing available. These guys are an amazing tag team and really treat you like Family. Check them out, you will not be disappointed.

Great Service BUT too difficult to get regular maintenance scheduled

Great Service. Too bad they make it so hard to get an appointment for regular service, They are trying to become a dealership Jeffy Lube and want you to take a chance to drive in and get in a line and wait.

Great Experience!

This Subaru has the BEST price quoted to me the 1st time around! I am a sales by trade, I do not like to be played around by car sales people. Before purchasing the Crosstrek, I went and had the vehicle test drive and check out the exact trim I wanted. I send out to about 5 to 6 dealership around my area, within 50 miles asking for the lowest price quote. This dealership gave me a quote no other dealership even want to match! The sales person is very straight forward, very polite, and when I was at the dealership, ALL the sales person was very nice. My sales guy, Paul, treated me right. No long wait, no b.s., got exactly what I wanted and the price we agreed on. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to buy a Subaru. If you want NO REGRETS buying a Subaru, go to Paul L. at Gold Rush Subaru.

To begin with I had an Internet quote from another location via Edmond's, but since we had visited Gold Rush Subaru first and live in the Auburn area, thought we should give the Salesman a chance to beat or match it. They jumped at the chance, we thought this could be great to keep the purchases local and support the area. This was confirmed by email and phone with Salesman. (As you can see from Yelp most of the posts are 4-5 positive) Next(same day, 2 hours later) (30mins) Was told that we needed to come in ASAP as the car type that we wanted was not on the lot but the Dealership had to transfer it from another dealership in the area. There were 2 cars out there in the area 2hrs ago, but needed to act now as the cars maybe gone. So we came into the Dealership and waited while they verified if the 2x cars were still available :-). They did not tell us this when we got there, my wife had to ask after 15min of small talk. So once that was understood, we discussed the Internet quote and agreed to the cost of the car based on the quote we had given. Nothing had changed, all was as agreed, very good. The Salesman then said that there was the very same model/colored cars on the lot, but it was being held for someone else. He asked if we want to see it (cause we had not really seen the color up close yet) we said yes. So we took 10-15min time to see the car we wanted. Very nice, a good feeling knowing we were very close, we thought. Either car was still not confirmed when we got back inside the dealership, but up to this point it had been an enjoyable experience for the most part. Trade-in (40mins) Then the fun started with the game of "trade-in". We had brought the Kelley Blue-book printout, but that did not matter as they had their own value list. They started very low and worked up to their final number well below what it was worth. Of course this was after many trips back and forth to the Head Mgr by our Salesman, What a game! I was taken out to my car and the Salesman pointed out all the issues. We agreed that there were some cosmetic issues and some items that would need to be improved (value reduced). We were able to bring them back up to within $800 of what we thought it was forth (this was based on Blue book). After 40 mins of this, we finally settled on a price for the trade-in plus adding a crossbar in the deal to our original Internet quote and shook hands, even the Head Mgr agreed. Invoice issues (10mins) About 5-10mins after they had made the agreement, the Salesman 'discovered' that the cost needed to be increased by $200.00 due to some invoice issues the Head Mgr had found. We were told the Internet quote was a lie and we wouldn't get that price from anyone (which we did :) My wife had stepped away for a min. after the deal seemed to be finalized so was very surprised and fed up at this point with the process as was I. To be honest, it was only $200.00, BUT we had agreed on a price, now they were ready to throw away the sale and lose our trust over only $200.This left us wondering how many more items were going to be 'discovered' and how many times were we going to have to renegotiate our 'final price'. NOW PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, WE HAD NOT BEEN TOLD AT ANY TIME DURING OUR TIME AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE CAR WE WANTED WAS STILL AVAILABLE. We were Done (10mins) We had had enough. We had spent 1.5hrs Both of us were really sorry because we were told we could get the car we wanted, color and everything but we will not do business with people who will not honor their agreement after a hand shake. I could not trust them any longer and who knows what would happen when the car arrived the next day. We walked out and don't plan to come back. To Gold Rush Subaru Dealership A word to the Dealership, you need to honor your agreements! You say you do not play games but our experience would state otherwise. We would have liked to have done business with you due to location and vehicle. The Salesman was very knowledgeable about Subaru and the product, was friendly and down to earth and seemed honest and straight forward. We had looked at several reviews on your business and did not see anything bad, only good. and felt fine about visiting you. I am sorry things turned out the way they did. Please know that you have lost a potential customer and we will make sure to tell others to stay away from your business. >>> The next day we purchased the very same car from the quoted dealership, no issues, price as stated was the price. So this makes me wonder, what went wrong. 1) I think the main issue for us was we were expecting the Internet Sales; no hassles, fast, smooth experience, no game playing. Since this did not happen, we had little tolerance and felt we had wasted our time. 2) A deal with a Hand Shake being broken in 5-10mins, that's not honorable, that's does NOT instill trust.
