Tried to charge me for services that were not needed

by BapBaby on 03/09/2021

I went for an oil change and as usual they did the 360° inspection of my vehicle and informed me that due to the time and mileage that there were a number of services that were in need of “immediate attention“. One of those services were my front and rear brakes. They stated that both of the brakes pads were in need of replacement and the rotors need to be resurfaced, all to the tune $238 each. I declined all extra services and took my car the next day to a mechanic who informed me that my brakes were not bad, in fact my front brakes were good for another 3 to 6 months and my back brakes were good for at least another year. Still not satisfied I went to another mechanic who told me the same thing. It is a good thing that I decided to get a second opinion otherwise I would’ve been out almost $500 for brakes that were not in need of “immediate attention “

Chapman Chevrolet Service

by Chapman Chev on 02/21/2020

I've seen quite a few negative reviews on the Chapman Chevrolet (especially the service department), but since I bought my 2016 Chev Silverado Z71 there new 4 years ago I've had positive experiences - up until this past experience! I got an appointment within a couple of days of when I called to get 2 recall notices taken care of and have my oil changed and a multipoint inspection along with tire rotation. Robbie estimated it would be a couple of hours when I dropped off my vehicle around 10:30 am on Wednesday. She then texted me and said I could look at a link she sent me for progress and the status of my bill. She called me around 3pm and said me truck was ready. I checked the link on line and it still showed In Inspection, but I did look at the bill and it said $22.95 for Oil & Filter change and $34.95 for a new AC filter (which I approved online) + some shop charges and taxes for a total of $65.26, but once I got thee to check out the total was $104.82 and when I asked her about the discrepancy of what was online she showed me the receipt and said she took off $10 because the bill did look a little high??? I paid it and she said my truck was "over there" and pointed - no delivery, no "thank you" and she was gone! I walked over to my truck and got in and saw my tire pressures from my truck screen and they were 37, 35, 38 & 37! I'm not even sure they did a tire rotation and if they did they didn't even take the time to check the tire pressures. I pulled through the service aisle and asked to speak to Robbie but she wasn't around, but "Garry" asked "What's up?". I showed him my tire pressures and asked him if a tire rotation was even done and he said he could take my truck back and get it relooked at and I said I just wanted it done right the 1st time. I've had good service at Chapman and defended them (even online) when I heard and saw negative complaints, but maybe I've just been lucky. If this is more indicative of how customers are treated then I'll be taking all y future business else where. FYI, my wife gets her Buick Enclave serviced at Henry Brown and we love it out there. They deliver your car to you and make sure you're happy and they explain everything they've done. I suggest you have you're service manager go visit Henry Brown to see how they do it.

First Service for our 2019 Tahoe

by 2019 Tahoe on 06/04/2019

The first service for our new Tahoe took about 1.5 hours longer than quoted on the phone. They do not have a loaner car so you can return to work. The length of time it took for an oil change, tire rotation and topping off the fluids was excessive.

Great Dealership

by HowardS on 12/03/2018

Wow, what a great dealership. From start to finish. Linda Seamans, my sales person and Fleet Manager at Chapman made the purchase of my Colorado the easiest and enjoyable purchase ever. Now going back for my first oil change and service it is clear to me that the Chapman family truly hires and retains great people. My service advisor Isaiah Cox was great to work with and kept me informed all along the way. I highly recommend Chapman Chevrolet to anyone looking for a Chevy product. My guess is you will get the same level of service at any Chapman location.

Atrocious

by Cargal225 on 11/09/2018

I just received a phone call today, 11/9/18, at 9:33 am in regards to my oil life and seeing if I wanted to get it serviced. The lady I spoke with informed me that I have a maintenance plan on my vehicle to receive oil changes and 2 tire rotations at no charge which expires 2 years after purchase or at 24,000 miles. Upon signing the documents to purchase this vehicle, it was never discussed with about the maintenance plan. Paul Elliot only suggested gap insurance. I am very upset that I still am having issues with your dealership an entire year later. I spoke with general manager Chase Gibbs in regards to the manner on 11/9/2018 at 10:06 am, and he was rude and unapologetic at the discrepancies. He stated that the maintenance plans are stated on the car sticker, that no one reads. I am upset because they offered me 2 free oil changes at the beginning of this entire ordeal which is useless anyway due to me having a maintenance plan that was never discussed with me. I have spent roughly $95 for 3 changes during this time that I've had the Chevy Spark. I will never buy another vehicle from this dealership and will never recommend them to anyone.

Incomplete and inefficient service

by kroumfort on 06/01/2018

This is the third or fourth time I’ve had work done on my 2013 Cruze at this location and every time the service has taken days longer than promised. This time I scheduled a service appointment a week in advance and when I dropped my car off I was told there were many cars ahead of me and it may take a day before the technician got around to my car. What is the point of scheduling an appointment if it’s not able to be looked at the same day? You need to limit the appointments that are scheduled if you’re unable to service all the vehicles. It took 4 days before I even received a phone call addressing my concerns regarding my car. I dropped my Cruze off and let the service specialist know I had 2 concerns that I wanted the technician to look at, one being that the air conditioning kept going out. After 4 days I finally received a call from the service specialist and was told the service would be finished in 2 hours, but they checked my air conditioning and there was nothing wrong as it was working fine. I didn’t argue because after 4 days of being without a car I was happy to finally be getting it back. Two days after picking up my car the air conditioner stopped working completely. I decided to take my Chevy to the Dodge dealership just down the street from my house and within ONE HOUR they were able to determine the air compressor needed to be replaced. Now I know your service technician didn’t even bother to address my concern regarding the air and wrote it off as working fine. I am completely frustrated with the service your dealership has provided and I refuse to return to this location. Most people live busy lives and aren’t able to give up their vehicle for 4 days only to have to return because the work was done poorly or incompletely.

Do not recommend

by corieg97 on 07/31/2017

As a first car buyer I definitely did not expect my experience to be handled so poorly. I bought a used car about a week ago which I absolutely love! It has been my dream car since I was a little girl! I've worked tremendously hard for this car and unfortunately the car has broken down 4 times since, it's been the battery, the coolant, spark plugs, just about everything has happened day after day. I have spent just about everyday at this dealership trying to speak to a sales manager. I am constantly told to come back to speak to Mr. Ben Guthrie who will "resolve" my problems. Yet every time I go in, Mr. Guthrie makes eye contact with me from across the room and sends his sales men to handle the problem and avoids speaking to me at all cost. I have sat there for hours waiting on somebody "who has authority" to speak to me and nobody comes. When I ask for a general manager they claim that he's either in a meeting or he just left or they don't know where he is and give no answers or any help. The customer service here is absolutely atrocious. Looking at the reviews I see I'm not the first customer they've ripped off. Ive watched customers leave this place just as frustrated as I do wishing they would have never bought from here. Once they sell you the car they are of no interest to help. Today I finally spoke to Mr. Guthrie and of course he refused to help me and made negative claims about "trying to help me and speaking to me" when he has avoided me and my situation completely. Seriously don't go here. Oh and I don't want to forget to mention when I was first signing for the deal just about everything in the paperwork was wrong and they had to go back and forth for about 8 hours because the lack of communication between the people that work there is immense. I should've taken that as a sign and backed out then! Extremely disappointed to have been ripped off and treated so poorly. They simply don't care about the customers, just the sales. I have already spoken to the General Manager and was given an apology. Unfortunately that does not change the way I feel about the way I was treated and the poor service given, I would urge others to find a different place to buy.

Rude service

by Dprince23 on 05/08/2017

From 2010 til now I have bought 3 used cars from chapman chevrolet in tempe. The first two deals the service was great. This year I bought a used nissian and I felt rushed and the service was garbage. My regret is that I bought this car that I really didn't even like. The used car manager and salesman I delta with were rudest and just wanted to close a deal. So at the end of the day shame on me for being a loyal customer. One thing for sure I will never spend a dime at chapman chevrolet in tempe again. I only gave one star because no star or negative stars was not an option.

Felt very disrespected

by Vingsthing on 07/31/2016

We're from Tucson and drove up to Phoenix to look at used trucks since the selection is so much better. One of the trucks was at Chapman Chevy. A 2006 Ford F250 diesel 4x4. Alex greeted us and was helpful. We went for a test drive and really liked the truck. I told Alex I already had pre-approved financing thru my credit union ( a preferred partner) that would cover the full cost of the truck. We went inside to work out the details. Alex went to get the numbers and came back with prices with cash down. I told him again I had financing and it would cover the whole price, and asked him to give me the out the door price. They were asking 17,495 for the truck, which was a very fair price per KBB. Alex came back and showed me an out the door price of $21,500. Just over $4000 more then the asking price. I can understand tax, title and license, those are expected when buying from a dealer. When I questioned about all the extra costs, Alex was a bit unsure (new salesman I believe). He went and got the sales manager, explained all the extra costs, like $1400 for "accessories" (costs associated with detailing, servicing and prepping the truck, no actual parts), $350 for VTP (vehicle theft protection) explained as Chapman basically passing on their insurance costs to the customer, $375 document processing (again a dealer cost I understand but still very high to type up some papers and send off to DMV). And a couple hundred dollars in other misc fees and costs. While all this is going on, the sales manager talked me into seeing if he could find better financing options (I don't blame him, I had no issue trying to find a better deal) but all the while I told him my credit union already approved me. Also while all this is going on, other customers are coming in interested in the truck and taking test drives. I know I didn't have any kind of hold on the truck, but still kind of bugged me. So by this time we've been dealing this for about 1 1/2 hour. Alex and the sales manager finally come over and tell us they couldn't find a better financing deal, and know they can't get hold of my credit union because it's 5:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday. All the while I'm watching the sales manager dealing with the salesmen who are working the other interested parties. So they tell us, we'll let you know if we get hold of them and you guys can pretty much go now. I feel we were pretty much dropped because I wouldn't drop any cash on a down payment. I felt very disrespected and treated like a second class citizen. I actually kind of felt sorry for Alex, who worked with us for 2 hours just to have someone take his commission out from under him. We didn't get a call from anyone there in regards to any contact with my credit union or that the truck had been sold. This is the kind of treatment I would expect from some little crappy corner used car lot, not one of the largest dealers in Arizona. I would never recommend any Chapman franchise to any of my friends and will go out of my way to spread the word of my disappointment with Chapman

Fantastic Sales Experience

by chicagofan00 on 06/01/2015

Purchased a 2015 Tahoe LT this past weekend from Chapman. I was in and out of the dealership in 4 hours including test drive, negotiations, finance paperwork, and taking the keys to the new Tahoe. Sure it could have been a tad quicker but it was the end of the month and they were super busy so I can understand the time it took. Matt Walters was great to work with and he communicated via text over the week prior as to my questions about the Tahoe and what kind of deal could be made which is nice since I don't always have the time during the day to take a call but texting is always easy to do. I was firm on what I wanted for my trade-in, my downpayment, and what I wanted my monthly payment to be and Chapman was able to accommodate that after a few back and forth negotiations. Not a single individual was rude or impatient (sales manager and finance manager) during the whole process, in fact this was some of the friendlier negotiations I've ever had during the sales process (and I've bought many of new cars in my days!). I'd highly recommend someone to take a look at Chapman Chevy when considering a new Chevrolet.

Hidden Fees

by vjk1 on 12/30/2014

We recently purchased a used car from Chapman Chevrolet. First, the salesperson we worked with, Orlando, was very personable and provided a great experience while examining and test driving the car. The car had just been traded in and needed to clear with the seller's bank as well as be inspected and detailed. Orlando kept us up to date on the process over the course of six days. We negotiated a price that was a little above our target but it did not sound like we were going to get anything better and figured if neither party is entirely happy it's probably a good deal. The agreement was "$X plus tax" and we had that in writing from the dealership. We even had it stated that it would include temporary registration (we were taking the car out of state). Everything went smoothly and quickly until we entered the finance manager's office. At this point we were hit with three additional fees: 1) Window etching; about $300. 2) Registration; about $80. 3) Documentation; about $400. After a little push back the finance manager removed the window etching without approval from the sales manager but made it sound like all the fees had been rolled back. We noticed that was not the case when we were to sign the final loan document which still had the registration and documentation fees on it. At this point the sales manager was called in and told us that regardless of whatever deal we had with him that we had to either pay registration and documentation or walk away. This is why car dealerships have such bad reputations: not honoring deals you make in writing and disclosing all fees up front. In the end we made the deal and rolled the additional fees into the finance. However, the entire experience was soured by nearly $500 in additional fees and made our entire negotiation of "$X plus tax" seem worthless. Overall, I enjoyed the experience at the dealership and would test drive cars there again. As for purchasing a car there that's not going to happen again. If you do intend to buy a car from Chapman I would recommend not considering any negotiations final until speaking with the finance manager. If we weren't leaving town in 24 hours I would have walked away - learn from my experience and just do so! -------- UPDATE 12/30: I received a phone call from the general manager of Chapman Chevrolet as a result of my review. He was very pleasant and wanted to understand where the process had broken down. This was greatly appreciated and in contrast to how my concerns were received by the sales and finance managers. The offer I received and accepted over the telephone was for $23,500 plus tax. However, there was a "breakdown" form that I initialed immediately prior to speaking with the finance manager that included all three additional charges. It was purely my own negligence for not catching it at this point and calling it out. So the charges were not slipped in during the financing phase but just before it. I will never understand how an offer of $23,500 plus tax can break-down by including additional line items or how you can negotiate a deal only to have it altered at the last minute. Next time I will write the offers and they will sign!

Poor, but I scored!

by brikass on 12/27/2014

I'm disabled and on a very limited budget. The entire team at Chapman Chevrolet never made me feel poor or undeserving. In fact, it was just the opposite. They went well out of their way to not only make me feel important, but special. I got the car I wanted, not the one I'd have to settle for, and that meant a lot to me. They had to jump through a lot of hoops to get me approved, but they never gave up. They did something else that was really important, which was making sure that even though they finally got me approved for an amount, that the vehicle cost an amount that I could afford. If you're on a tight budget like I am, but you really need a new vehicle, there's no one else in the world that I would ever recommend other than Chapman Chevrolet! Sometimes it takes a village to make a car deal. A very special, heart-felt thanks to Chris, Ray, Howard, and Tim!

Great Experience!!!!!

by jrobinette1 on 12/19/2014

Great Experience!!!!!!!!!!!! A lot of the time when people go to the dealership to buy a car, they are excited and have in mind what they want in their new vehicle. This in a lot of cases turns out to be the complete opposite and buying a new/used car becomes a nightmare because what you thought you could get, doesn't work out and you become discouraged. For the first time ever in my vehicle purchasing history, I was blown away by how work, determination, care, and honesty came with my purchase from this dealership this past week. Most car salesmen are there solely for the sale and the commission that comes with it. At this dealership, this is so far from that. I knew what I wanted before I got there, when I arrived Keith Darden had the car I was interested in waiting up front, cleaned out and ready to be test driven. There was absolutely NO pressure, no gimmicks, no hidden agenda. Keith was very professional and sat in the passenger seat, didn't say anything unless I asked a question in regards to selling this car to me. Keith had a normal conversation with me during the test drive which made it more comfortable. When we returned, I knew that this was the car for me so we began the process. I was already approved prior to coming in which is always a plus. The finance Manager Matt Mcleod actually found me another finance company to see if I could get a lower rate and thought for sure that what I had in place was already great. Matt was able to get me with another financing company at a MUCH lower APR, LOWER monthly payment, and he also didn't hide what the cost were, didn't pressure on purchasing the extras or anything. These guys worked together as a team to get me not only in the car, but, they also made it possible for me to make sure that I was able to handle the payments. It is TRULY hard these days to find good people who care about their customers and I can honestly say that I would have driven to Flagstaff for this dealership from Casa Grande because of the treatment there. I see that there are some who may not agree that the service is great here, but, at the same time life is not perfect and you can't always get what you want, but, if you step into reality with what you can afford, this dealership will help you to achieve that goal!

Bad Business Practices

by angry_custom on 10/18/2014

Started by looking for a specific vehicle, Nissan Maxima, online. Found one at Chapman and was very interested in it. Arrived at the dealership and the sales guy, name was Anthony Corvino, took me around the whole dealership trying to locate the vehicle I was interested in only to locate it and find that it was sold. Talked about another Maxima but ended up being talked into a lesser one, knew my limits in terms of payments. We came to an agreement on a price and Anthony said congrats. I filled out the lengthy paperwork in what appeared to be closing the deal. Traded in my old car keys and was given new car keys with temporary license plate. Drove off a happy camper in my new 2010 Maxima. I came back to Phoenix for a family emergency and the AC in the vehicle gave out. So I took it into the dealership to see what they could do about it. INSTEAD I am confronted by another guy telling me that the bank wants $1,000 down. Frustrated I explained that I signed for $0 down and the guy insisted that it wasn't the dealerships fault. Since I had the vehicle I said fine and worked with them to put a $1,000 down over four weeks. I run to the bank to get a blank check, return and the same guy goes to talk with the sales manager. A few minutes later in comes Anthony saying that he can get me into a Chevy Cruze since I am willing to do a $1,000. I DECLINE because I signed for the Maxima which was way better than a Cruze. He left to talk to whoever and returned saying that the bank now wants $1,800!!! Furious I demanded my old car back. BEWARE this dealership. DON'T take the car keys until a bank is confirmed or they will call you and say the deal didn't go through. The whole time they insisted it wasn't their fault. HOW ABOUT YOU STOP WASTING TIME AND DON'T GIVE PEOPLE THE KEYS UNTIL A BANK IS SECURED! I will not be referring anyone to Anthony Corvino, who smirked when I told him to not waste people's time either. Nor will I be referring anyone to Chapman Chevrolet! I only wished they would've called me while I was back in Northern Arizona, that way they would've had to pick up the car themselves! But at least I got a fancy car rental for a few days for free. AND To the person now looking to buy the 2010 Maxima with illegal window tint and blueish gray paint, INSPECT THE VEHICLE! The AC was going out and there were some minor damages on the inside that they weren't going to pay for. And to EVERYONE inspect the vehicle before signing. Anthony didn't even try to explain that and I almost signed off without disclosing any of the interior damages. BUYER BEWARE WITH THIS DEALERSHIP. Look at the Yelp! reviews for a clearer picture!

The Best Car Dealership Ever

by Vickie_C on 10/07/2014

I have been trading with Chapman Chevrolet since the 90's. They have always provided me great customer service and repair service. Recently Bryce McCutcheon helped me find the car of my dreams. He is fantastic as is Tyler May, Bryce's manager, the financing team, and all the others on the Sales Team that make it function so well. My experience was fruitful and entertaining....some of the Sales team are great comedians. Go visit and let them make your day. Bryce and his team certainly made mine.
