Dealership Sales Review

1 out of 5 starssales Rating
Felt very disrespected

We're from Tucson and drove up to Phoenix to look at used trucks since the selection is so much better. One of the trucks was at Chapman Chevy. A 2006 Ford F250 diesel 4x4. Alex greeted us and was helpful. We went for a test drive and really liked the truck. I told Alex I already had pre-approved financing thru my credit union ( a preferred partner) that would cover the full cost of the truck. We went inside to work out the details. Alex went to get the numbers and came back with prices with cash down. I told him again I had financing and it would cover the whole price, and asked him to give me the out the door price. They were asking 17,495 for the truck, which was a very fair price per KBB. Alex came back and showed me an out the door price of $21,500. Just over $4000 more then the asking price. I can understand tax, title and license, those are expected when buying from a dealer. When I questioned about all the extra costs, Alex was a bit unsure (new salesman I believe). He went and got the sales manager, explained all the extra costs, like $1400 for "accessories" (costs associated with detailing, servicing and prepping the truck, no actual parts), $350 for VTP (vehicle theft protection) explained as Chapman basically passing on their insurance costs to the customer, $375 document processing (again a dealer cost I understand but still very high to type up some papers and send off to DMV). And a couple hundred dollars in other misc fees and costs. While all this is going on, the sales manager talked me into seeing if he could find better financing options (I don't blame him, I had no issue trying to find a better deal) but all the while I told him my credit union already approved me. Also while all this is going on, other customers are coming in interested in the truck and taking test drives. I know I didn't have any kind of hold on the truck, but still kind of bugged me. So by this time we've been dealing this for about 1 1/2 hour. Alex and the sales manager finally come over and tell us they couldn't find a better financing deal, and know they can't get hold of my credit union because it's 5:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday. All the while I'm watching the sales manager dealing with the salesmen who are working the other interested parties. So they tell us, we'll let you know if we get hold of them and you guys can pretty much go now. I feel we were pretty much dropped because I wouldn't drop any cash on a down payment. I felt very disrespected and treated like a second class citizen. I actually kind of felt sorry for Alex, who worked with us for 2 hours just to have someone take his commission out from under him. We didn't get a call from anyone there in regards to any contact with my credit union or that the truck had been sold. This is the kind of treatment I would expect from some little crappy corner used car lot, not one of the largest dealers in Arizona. I would never recommend any Chapman franchise to any of my friends and will go out of my way to spread the word of my disappointment with Chapman
