Typical Car Experience--disappointing

onI started my search for a new Subaru Forester here, and initially, I was impressed, and optimistic that I wouldn't be given the usual dealership experience of games, lies and "wait here while I talk to my manager."
However, when we got down to the end game, and we were only a few hundred dollars apart, it happened.
I got calls from the "sales manager", who I deduced had not spoken to the sales rep, based on his grasp of the facts.
He said they could work something out on the price difference, and encouraged me to come back in.
When I did, the sales rep did not know who had called me and said "the person who can make the decision on this price, could not be found."
I guess he went missing because after 24 hours, I never heard back, and went to another dealership and bought a car.
Bottom line was, because these guys resorted to practices, that everyone who buys a car hates, they lost a sale.
