Who buys a car with only one key? Apparently people who trust this dealer.

by chuck6126 on 07/21/2009

I bought a car on a Saturday. When we were signing all the paperwork, I noticed there was only one key - so the salesman told me to go across the street to Home Depot and they would make me another key (at my expense). So I did. Of course, it did not work - it needs that microchip in there to make the car start. So I went back to the salesman and he told me to come back on Monday when the service people were there and he would get me another key. When I came back, he told me the key was going to cost me $125. He then said he never said anything about giving me a key. I asked to see the manager and he was, of course, not there. So, I left... angry. After failing to get the salesman (he was fired the next day, turns out) or the manager on the phone, I sent a registered letter to the manager explaining what happened and that I expected a key for my new car. I never got a response. So, I contacted Ford Corporate (FoMoCo) to let them know what a horrible job Tallapoosa Ford is doing. FoMoCo was concerned as well and contacted Tallapoosa to settle this matter. After 4 months, I got a survey from FoMoCo in the mail asking me to rate how Tallapoosa Ford followed up on their request. I have yet to hear from Tallapoosa about this and I probably never will. Bottom line: Get what you need before you sign anything... once this place gets your money, they don't care. The way the manager in particular has ignored my requests and even requests from FoMoCo says it all. I learned one thing: Buyer beware!
