Actually the G35 is not a "better" car, just different. If you plan on driving at 8-9/10's all the time, drifting around corners and don't car about fuel mileage or daily civility, the G35 is a better choice. But why buy a sedan if you are gonna drive like you are on a race track every day? Why not a purpose built sports car? Need something practical? Well that is were the G35 fell behind in my decision. I am an enthusiast driver and I do drive hard most of the time, but I had to be realistic and admit that 90% of the time (or more) I am simply just driving the car to work. My commute would have the G35 6M running at 3200 rpm where the TL-S is running a more sedate 2750 rpm. That ends up being quite a difference in fuel mileage. Not that I care THAT much( I would have bought a Jetta Diesel if I did), but If I have a choice between two similar cars and there is 3-4 mpg difference, I'll take the better mileage. The G35 is also a little less refined in engine note with extra noise transmitted through the shifter. Engine wise the TL-S could stand to be a tad louder because it actually sounds so darn good. I really don't get how Infiniti could make a car with 6 speeds and not have 6th as a real overdrive, even with that big, torquey 3.5 liter engine. Add to the practicality with Honda reliability and a price advantage, plus the car insurance is $400 a year more, the TL-S was the winner although it was a compromise dynamically. When I was in my 20's I could have put up with more, but I am now 40 and expect more for my money, especially if I am only going to drive 1 car. The G35 did have a neat laser cruise control option which could even pre-prime the brakes, but that pushed the price even higher. The best deals I could get on a G35 was around $37-38K, I closed on my TL-S for $33.9K. There have only been a few times I wished I had RWD, and of course that is so I could use power oversteer around a corner instead of plowing. Other than that powering out of corners, you hardly feel the FWD. We have had no snow yet this year here in Texas, but last year a G35 Sport would have been a garage queen(comes with summer tires). It would not have been usable on the roads, granted that was only a couple days, but I do have to get to work. Bottom line is: I love the G35 and it was a tough decision, but I have no regrets, especially money wise, I saved 5k off the top, $400 a year in insurance and about $350 a year in fuel costs......... the TL-S becomes a bargain. One way I helped myself was to make a spreadsheet with an ordinal ranking system of my needs and wants. I gave each area a certain amount of points then individually ranked the top contender cars. The TL-S won, the Legacy GT came in second (It was the most tuner friendly, plus AWD and 6MT), the Cadillac CTS-V took third by a nose over the Infiniti G35. This was because not only was it RWD, it was tuner friendly and started with 400 hp and had huge emotional appeal for me. Fortunately this process helped bring me back to reality, a realm that the TL-S rules. ;)
New TL-S

I have had my new CBP TL-S with 6M for just over a week now and I am totally in love with it. My old car is a 1998 Maxima 5M and on my daily driving routine (of about 13 miles freeway and 10 miles side streets), I have been averaging 22 mpg. Possibly because I tend to accelerate hard and partly because I typically cruise at 77-80 mph on the interstate (depending on traffic). On my first tank with the TL-S (including 20 minutes idling at the dealer), I averaged about 24 MPG and so far on the second tank my average is between 25-26. That's pretty damn impressive considering the bigger engine, 450 lbs extra weight and an engine with just over 300 miles on it. My friend has a 06 TL 6M and gets 22 ave, and I am much more aggressive than he is. Mileage is one factor I used to decide against the G35S. I also find it annoying that a car like that with a big V-6 and a 6M would be turning over 3000 rpm at 80 MPH. I guess that is where the mileage is going. My Maxima runs about 3300 rpm at 80, not very relaxing. The TL just cruises along almost napping at those speeds. Granted the acceleration is not that sharp in 6th gear, but that is what 5th is for. :surprise: If anyone is still trying to decide on a TL/TL-S, I would do it again and again, it's simply the best combo of luxury, sport and practicality, period.
Re: After the Fact...Did I get a decent deal? [hazelw]

hazelw... are you sure it's just the mdx w/tech? and not an mdx w/tech & ent? well, i think your numbers are a bit on the high side...i think the dealership was not very fair to you. here's what I got my car for...granted, i am in southern california, but the number discrepancy shouldn't be that much. I got an 08 mdx w/tech back in september, and the agreed upon value was $40,100, and the gross cap cost was $40695 (that included a $595 bank acquisition fee...or something like that). My out the door was $1500 which included $480 towards cap cost reduction (a.k.a. down payment), and my payments are $600/month (that's including a 7.75% tax). This was for a 36 month lease with 12k miles/year. It seems that most people are getting their 08 mdx's for about invoice which would be closer to $40500 ish. So, in theory, you should have been able to get an 07 for under invoice. but, maybe Arizona is different? that being said, if you love the car, and are happy with the car, then i wouldn't give too much thought to your deal. just don't go to them next time! congrats on your car...i love mine (this is my second one..i had an 05 mdx before) and i know you'll love yours!!!

I know that you can do a lot better than that. I know a lot of people in this forum that have gone to Springfield Acura (including myself) and got a better deal. They charge only $395 for 4 years Motor Vehicle (NJ), $258 Doc fee, your 1st month payment, and a bank fee to Honda of $595...usually your inception fees will come out to be somewhere around $1900. Read one thread by dannj, he got his Tech/Ent with $1,800 out of pocket, 42 months and 22k miles for $678 a month...and he got a roof rack with cross bars and a cargo cover thrown in. Granted this seems to good to be true, but this is what he wrote :confuse: :) I used the same guy over at Springfield that he did, his name is Calvin Moore. I know you can see him at www.acurasearch.com Hope that helps.

deichel, As each day goes by, you should be getting better and better deals. At the time, just 10 days back, I had likely the best deal one could get. your invoice as you have it listed is $41,425.00. Aside from the accessories, you should pay no more than 200 over this invoice. Look at the cost of those accessories I listed a couple of postings back and get the same. Labor is nearly 135.00 per hour in California. forget the labor, get the items at cost period.. They'll do this. Granted, I had a check for 30K as my down and showed I was damn serious. But, wether or not you had 10K or 30K as a down, shouldn't keep the deal from happening. There are other dealers available.
07 RL Hunt!

Ah, the joys of purchasing a new car! Have you tried Autobytel? I used them a couple of years ago and saved $500.00 over the local no-deal dealer which was just down the street. Granted, they still have to do the service on the car... but they did not make a sale, to bad for them. At the time you were not obligated to make the purchase from the Autobytel selected dealer, but at least you will geta sense of what the dealer can do. I don't see any "RLs" advertised in the local papers, maybe that is Acura's stratagie to keep them under wraps and to find the buyer looking for that particular model so they can make as much as they can. Greed is an inderesting product.
