Edmunds spotlight: The Lyriq's distinctive style

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but whether you love it or hate it, there's no doubt that the Lyriq's styling makes an impression. Unlike the EVs that try to fly under the radar with a reserved design (or, in the Model Y's case, are so ubiquitous that your eyes glide right off the sheetmetal), you won't lose the Lyriq in the Disneyland parking lot. An intricately detailed front lighting signature is complemented by the Lyriq's tall station-wagon profile. The high waistline and chopped roof give it a custom car look, and the wraparound taillights that start at the rear pillar wouldn't look out of place on a concept. Simply put, the Lyriq is a showstopper.

Competitors to consider

We also recommend checking out the Genesis GV60, which is one of the Lyriq's closest rivals in terms of size and price. It's comfortable and quick — especially if you opt for the Performance version — but its maximum range isn't particularly impressive. You could also save some cash with the Model Y or go upmarket with the BMW iX or Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV.

Which LYRIQ does Edmunds recommend?

The Lyriq's Luxury 2 and Sport 2 trim levels provide loads of value. Either is a reasonable price bump from the Luxury 1 or Sport 1, and it gets you massaging and cooled front seats, a primo sound system and other upgrades. We think it's well worth the extra spend.

Cadillac LYRIQ models

The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq is a five-passenger midsize electric SUV. For its second year of production, the Lyriq is available in far more configurations than the 2023 model. The new Tech trim is the base version, followed by the 1, 2 and 3 trim levels, which are each available in the Luxury and Sport styling themes. Keep reading for our breakdown of the Lyriq's range, power and features that come on each trim.

Whichever model you select, every Lyriq is powered by a 102-kWh battery pack and your choice of rear- or all-wheel drive. RWD models feature a single motor (340 horsepower, 325 lb-ft of torque) estimated by the EPA to deliver 314 miles of driving range. Upgrade to AWD and you'll add a second motor to the front axle, upgrading output to 500 hp and 450 lb-ft while dropping range slightly to 307 miles.

We purchased our vehicle two and a half weeks ago, and it has spent one of those weeks in service at Cadillac with no end date as to when our issues will be resolved. 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ Luxury 4dr SUV (electric DD)

SuperCruise download opens Pandoras Box of issues. The Lyriq we took delivery of us has been in the service bay for six straight weeks now as of 7/13/2023. Cadillac is in serious trouble. UPDATE: This is a final review in the continuing nightmare that has been the cash purchase of a 2023 Lyriq. The vehicle has been in the service bay at Coulter Cadillac in Phoenix since May 31st. … Today is August 21st. The final response from Cadillac in our attempt to get them to repair all the faulty technology is "We have done all we can do. Either come and pick up your vehicle or we will start charging you storage fees". DO NOT make the mistake of purchasing a Cadillac Lyriq folks. I have never experienced such a nightmare with any vehicle in my 40 plus years of owning vehicles. As what is definitely the final addition to my review, we are scheduled to pick up our Lyriq from the second Cadillac dealership we took the vehicle to. Thus, the vehicle was dropped of on May 31st and we will 'hopefully' finally have the vehicle returned to us on September 22nd. Obviously, the Phoenix dealership is completely incompetent and we are hopeful, due to the daily updates received from the Scottsdale dealership, that we will actually have a functioning Lyriq. I would suggest not rolling the dice and purchasing this vehicle. The Cadillac dealerships obviously are unable to service the Lyriq and it has so very many glitches. I will not follow up on this review no matter what we are returned tomorrow. It will either be hiring an attorney and pursuing the 'Lemon Law' or we will sell the vehicle, as any future issues will be more utter nightmares to have serviced. While I swore not to add to my review, I can't help but share that to date (October 26th) our Lyriq is STILL being 'serviced'. It is absolutely shocking that Cadillac put such a vehicle on the market and expected it to be the future of their brand. I have never experienced such a nightmare with any vehicle in the 40 plus years I have been purchasing vehicles. Cadillac should be ashamed that they have made no effort to buy back us this obvious lemon of a vehicle. I would advise all potential Lyriq buyers to look elsewhere for an electric SUV. This vehicle is not the answer to any electric alternative. If we do not look for a legal remedy to this, I would imagine Cadillac would still be attempting to correct all the faulty technology in this disaster of a vehicle.

After three weeks and three hundred miles I walk into my garage to find my Lyriq was completely drained of energy. It drained itself from 180 miles to 24 overnight while parked in the garage. What is the Lyriq?

Despite what you might think of the name, the Lyriq is a really big deal, not only for Cadillac but also for General Motors. Utilizing GM's Ultium battery technology (the same technology will underpin the 2024 Honda Prologue), the Lyriq is showing us the future of electric mobility at General Motors. Stylish is a bit of an understatement when it comes to describing the Lyriq as it's the first Cadillac in decades to look every bit like a concept car, and not just on the outside. Inside, the Lyriq features a 33-inch curved digital display and contains all the latest technology, including GM's Super Cruise, the company's semi-automated driving system.

When the Lyriq debuted just last year, it was really only available in one trim: Luxury. Unique to the 2023 model was the Debut Edition, which has been scrapped for 2024. Now, the Lyriq lineup will feature a more conventional trio of trim levels: Tech, Luxury and Sport. Each trim level will offer the option of a 500-horsepower all-wheel-drive variant in addition to the standard 340-hp rear-wheel-drive powertrain. The Luxury and Sport trims will get a faster onboard charger (19.2 kWh, up from the Tech's 11.5 kWh) and the Sport will feature dark chrome accents, a unique grille and other styling touches.

The luxury EV SUV market has heretofore been dominated by the Tesla Model Y. Its combination of performance, technology and the brand's nationwide network of charging stations make it a solid choice for a new EV buyer. But other luxury brands have begun to infiltrate the segment. Audi offers its e-tron SUV, while BMW has its futuristic iX model and Genesis its Electrified GV70.
