This is my second Volvo. After driving a V90 Cross Country for three years, I went back to Volvo and leased an XC90 Ultra with all the bells and whistles. This car glides over the road -- smooth and refined. The BW sound system is a must have -- arguably the best system in the industry. The interior is a very pleasant place to be and the 22" rims give the car presence on the road. No regrets.

To say this car is a big disappointment is an understatement. I truly wanted to love this car since I've had my eye on it for years. However, I have had an awful experience with the car and also Volvo Care. The car died in my driveway within two weeks of having it. Apparently a software glitch. First HUGE red flag. The car has now been in three times and will need to go in for a fourth. The dealership has been remiss in acknowledging that I have the issues. (I even have video showing the problem - the cross-traffic on the driver's side is inconsistent) The driver's door handle did not work so they "fixed" it. Now it works but only when it's dry. When it's raining, forget it. The handsfree liftgate doesn't work - again on the left side, and the back left corner sensors do not activate the sound warning. Essentially, the left side of this car is a lemon and neither the dealership nor the national care team seem to want to fix it. Volvo Care has not lived up to its name and I am now having to bring in a lawyer to deal with the issues. Read the reviews of users. When they say there are software issues, they mean it! I'm thankful this is only a two year lease. I can't wait to move on from this car.

Right car for the times...!

We have had our XC90 for about 4 months now and have nothing but good things to say about it. We bought the car because we wanted an electric car, but need to hit the road for a 500 mile trip about once a month. At this point in time, we don't have confidence in the electric recharge stops available, and we didn't want to add another hour (at best) to an already long trip. We also don't want to have to "plan a trip" around the location of recharge stops. With this car, we feel we have the right car for the times, as we can go all month at home on electric and never burn a drop of fuel. But, when we have to hit the road, we don't deal with "range anxiety" or any prolonged stops along the way. We just get in and go! The car itself has performed well. We have not had any issues with the car and everything works just fine. We love all of the safety features as our last car did not have any of them. Blind spot alerts, back-up camera, 360 degree "Birds Eye" camera for parking, lane drift alerts, automatic adjusting cruise control and other alerts, all are helpful. We really appreciate the heads up display (HUD). It allows us to keep our eyes on the road, and we don't have to look anywhere else if we're just driving. All the info you need is right there, including navigation instructions. We also find the car to be quiet, the stereo system to be excellent and have to our surprise, even used the third row of seats on a couple of occasions. With the third row seats folded down we have plenty of room to strap in a kennel for our special puppy. He pretty much goes where we go, and we appreciate having the rear seat air vents to keep him comfortable as well. Obviously, we are safety conscious, and the XC90 has been rated as one of the safest cars on the road. Inside the car, we feel very safe and secure, given the weight and solid build of the car. Performance has been more than adequate for our needs, and we wanted a car big enough for our four footed passenger in the back. We also wanted a luxury SUV, but appreciate flying under the radar as we didn't really want a "flashier car". Lastly, we have found the infotainment center to be easy to use once you learn the system. Google maps work perfectly for us, and refreshes quickly if we change our route. The "hey google" voice commands work great for both my wife and myself. We are overall very satisfied with our car. We are safer drivers now and are in a safer car that performs very satisfactorily for us. We love running on electric 95% of the time, but we are lucky in that we have short commutes so the 32 mile range works perfectly for us. As the electric charge system in the US continues to evolve, an all electric car will likely be in our future. For the next five or six years, we believe that we have found the right car for us and would highly recommend it.

Recharge: Epically better than a Tesla Model X

I purchased a 2024 XC90 Recharge, switching from a 2020 Model X. I've been running the vehicle for two months, so it is early, but the fact that I'm taking the effort to write a review should say something. This vehicle is light years nicer than the Tesla (and the wheels don't fall off). Originally, I was looking at a Genesis GV80 (super sweet, crap mileage). Instead, I went with the Volvo (1st time owner). Upsides - with electric I'm getting excellent fuel efficiency. Gas only - I'm seeing 26-27 mpg on the highway (75 - 80 mph). I was surprised that gas only motor still has good pick-up, and the vehicle has very good performance. (my other car is a 640 hp CTS-V, so consider the perspective) Interior is excellent, pop-up baby seat is a huge bonus if you have kids. Massive interior room. Downsides - really only seeing 25 - 30 miles electric only. Low end on-board charger means 5 hours, even with a 60-amp 240 V Tesla charger. 2024 uses CCS, not NACS plug, so a $100 adapter is needed (bigger issue is leaving it at the charger). No spare tire! Infotainment screen is small. Overall, extremely impressed. My trim is Ultimate, mainly because that was in stock. I'm sure the lower trim (Plus) is sufficient and a better value.

I’m leasing at 2025 XC90 T8 ultra plug in hybrid. Its beautiful design isn’t enough to prevent you from realizing you have been transported back to 2009 in terms of vehicle features. Aside from a pretty comfortable and smooth ride in the absolutely beautiful leather clad cabin - every single other aspect of this car is lacking. For $82,000 - Volvo should be ashamed. Starting with the cup holders. They fit maybe 1 out of 3 beverage vessels. Otherwise you’re either using your right elbow to hold them steady while you drive or youve got your hydroflask pinned between your thighs because it doesn’ stand a chance of pushing into the opening in the center console. Moving on to the fireball/atomic brightness of the windows 98 infotainment screen in the middle of the dashboard that has no controls for BRIGHTNESS. Night and day - defcon 5 brightness for no reason. Day after day, each element raises the question, “who did they build this for?l Even the most basic functions lie simply activating one of the memorized presets for the luxurious leather front seats (they are lovely) requires the user to hold the preset button until the seat and mirrors reach their preset positions. Hold it down until it stops. UNLESS you do it with the car door open. Only then, will the seat adjust to the driver’s stored position via a single press of the button. There is no apple CarPlay via Bluetooth, so your iPhone must be tethered in order to have contact information included for incoming calls or text messages —unless you want to import all of your contacts into Google. You also need that tether to charge your phone since the car doesn’t support wireless charging. In 2025, your 80K new car perpetually has a cable poking out from the center console where the only usb ports for the front of the car live. The suit hanger hooks in the backseats will accommodates no more than 2 hangers at a time, so make sure to limit those dry cleaning pickups. Did I mention the beautiful leather front seats? They really are, and the ultra level gets you ventilated ones. And you won’t have an opportunity to forget about them once activated. The amount of noise they generate is like a mini wind tunnel, which I guess is fractionally more soothing then the barely muffled exterior noise you usually hear. The gas/battery level indicator is completely unreliable and often jumps 10-20 miles up or down suddenly. Parking assist via the sensors and cameras - barely useful. The alarms blare at nothing, or neglect to activate for real hazards. Also, you cannot adjust the sensitivity of the side mirror blind spot indicators. Then again they are positioned so that you don’t notice them without actively turning your head to look anyway. Also - the users manual is useless. The tire pressure indicator alerts you of low pressure - but no indication of which tire. So you pull over to a gas station and kneel down next to your car to check them one by one. Apparently there’s an auto windshield wiper function. You can’t just select that as your default setting though. You have to press a button each time you turn on the car to activate it. Isn’t that the opposite of Auto? The homelink button works perfectly! Does Volvo get a star for that? It’s another company’s product right? I do appreciate there is a headrest fold down butting for the middle and back row seats to increase visibility. Unfortunately, you’ll need to crawl in the raise them back into position manually if you’re having adults in your car post fold. No button to raise them back up. You can lock or unlock your car from the Volvo app. You’re also able to cool the car remotely prior to getting in on a hot day. Super cool - I would prefer having the little slide out extender on the driver’s visor that came standard on Indian rickshaws from the early 70s to preserve my ability to see when driving in full sun myself. But cool! The Volvo XC90 plug in hybrid is a very pretty car. The leather seats are gorgeous. I have the bone colored leather which isn’t available everywhere. I love looking at it and sitting in it. I don’t like how long I have to look to find information that I want about the car I spent so much money on. It’s almost like they’re hiding something…perhaps it’s the fully loaded 2009 Honda Civic EX’s features packed into a beautiful 2025 “luxury” vehicle’s shell and it worked on me. I was totally fooled You’ll get better bang for your buck elsewhere, take it
