2017 Volvo V60 Cross Country Wagon for Sale
The 2017 Volvo V60 Cross Country makes for an appealing alternative to an SUV, offering a good deal of the same utility and all-weather ability. Based on the V60 wagon, the Cross Country adds all-wheel drive and extra ground clearance — 7.9 inches total — endowing it with enough off-road capabilities to tackle rough dirt trails, if not serious boulder-strewn tracks.
Volvo makes some of the best seats in the business, and the V60 Cross Country is an exceedingly comfortable car to drive. The extra height raises the driver's eyepoint, giving a better view of the road than the regular V60. Cabin decor is cool and classy, with top-notch materials, and excellent sound deadening. The stereo's phone-style keypad looks a bit dated, but the controls are well organized and fairly easy to use.
That said, the V60 Cross Country has its drawbacks. Though this is ostensibly a station wagon, it really doesn't haul much more than a hatchback. Volvo doesn’t even list the V60 Cross Country's all-seats-in-place cargo capacity in their spec sheet, but we can tell you that many compact SUVs offer more space. With the rear seats folded down, the V60 holds 43.8 cubic feet of cargo. Several compact SUVs can carry nearly as much with the rear seats in use. Those rear seats do offer enough room for adults, although taller passengers might feel cramped. They're perfect for kids, though, especially thanks to the built-in booster seats.
The V60 Cross Country received a new engine for 2017: a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 240 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive are standard. Fuel economy is significantly better than last year's five-cylinder engine, with the 2.0-liter returning 25 mpg combined (22 city/30 highway), though it requires premium fuel. Volvo says the new engine will get the V60 Cross Country to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds, a full second quicker than last year's model.
The V60 Cross Country is generally pleasant to drive, though its off-road setup means less grip and more lean in the turns. The regular V60 — which can also be had with all-wheel drive but lacks the extra ground clearance — feels sharper. The Cross Country's ride also isn't quite as forgiving as the regular V60's.
Volvo offers the V60 Cross Country in Premier and Platinum trim levels; both feel properly posh, and much of the Platinum's extra equipment available in the Premier as optional extras. Edmunds can help you learn more about the 2017 V60 Cross Country and find the right car at the right price.
