Used 1991 Volvo 240 Consumer Reviews
Best Money I ever Spent
This is the best buy I ever bought! This wagon has a great engine, great body, and is very reliable. I have a large sheepdog and he has plenty of room in the wagon area to sit, stand or lie down. I can haul things just as any other expensive SUV, the gas mileage is supurb @ 330 miles / full tank of gas (13gal). I have 140,000 miles and running!
A Sliding Tank
This car was not designed to be driven in snow! It is rear wheel drive, and too much of the vehicle's weight is on the front wheels. Thus, the rear wheels have no traction on snow, and the vehicle is like a sliding tank. On the plus side, the vehicle is very solid; its engine and body are very good; and it is extremely reliable. On the negative, the fan/heater is way too noisy, and it does not control air temperature very well. In addition, I give the radio/cassette/speakers a rating of zero. Finally, to press the gas pedal in this car you have to move your foot too much to the left which makes for an uncomfortable position, especially on long trips!
best car ever built!
I own 4 of these great cars. I love all 4 and for very little money I have four cars that I would drive anywhere in the country. I have owned Mercedes, Toyota, nissan, subaru, and several american made cars and the volvo 240 is the best car ever built! Check out ebay for the no reserve auctions and get a steal of a deal on a 240.
240SE Wagon
I owned this car for 7 years. Except new air-conditioner, and air mass sensor, I only need to do routine maintenence. It is very reliable.
A very satisfying car
This is my second 240 wagon, having previously owned a 1987 with over 250k miles. I specifically looked for another, and haven't been disappointed. No, acceleration and handling aren't exciting. What the Volvo 240 does, and does very well, is get you there, every time. I have never felt as safe in any other vehicle in over 20 years of driving. An affordable modern classic, with more interior volume than many SUVs, rock-solid reliability, and 28 mpg on the highway. Who could realistically ask for more?
