2004 Volkswagen Touareg SUV V6 AWD 4dr SUV (3.2L 6cyl 6A)

Review

No other SUV can touch the interior
styling of the Touareg. The quality of
parts and materials makes the Lexus RX
330 look cheap. The outside is stylish
without looking like aftermarket parts -
the RX 330 chrome tail lights - come
on! SO HIGHSCHOOLISH. The Tourag is a
bit touchy in low speeds and gets 15
mpg, but, those are the only lows.
Beats Mercedes, BMW, Lexus and all
others. VW is also cool - who needs
those other stuckup brands? My Touareg
gets looks from all ages. Get one!

Review

Haven't had it very long, but it is the
best designed SUV that I have seen or
driven. I drove a Toyota Landcruiser in
Africa on several occasions and loved
it, but would have liked to have had
this T-Reg. Only question in my mind is
reliability. All these behemoths get
poor gas mileage. We all should have
known this when we purchased these
heavyweights! Navigation system could
use some software changes to make it
more like what I have seen in
Toyota/Lexus vehicles. The dealer told
me Navigation software upgrades are
coming. Not many automobiles make me
want to go out into the garage to get
one last look before going to bed, but
this one does!!

Best Features

Solid feel, ride height, interior quality and design, seals around doors, features, great handling, looks better than a Cayenne and costs much less, etc.

Worst Features

Needs body side moldings to reduce dings. Sound system should be better! Little more power in the V6 and availability of a turbodiesel smaller than the 10.

Review

Overall the car is excellent, but
whenever you purchase a Touareg make
sure the maintenance agreement is one
purchased in the area where it will be
serviced. Not all dealerships honor
these agreements. Believe Me!!!!!!!
One more thing, Volkswagon is still
working out the kinks with all the
computer chips installed in the
vehicle, so you might have to visit
the dealership a few times until these
small annoyances are resolved.

Best Features

The sports(S)shift gear option on the V6 give the Touareg some extra kick around town. Do not use for highway drives.

Worst Features

Better maintenance agreements.

Review

Spent over 20 days in the shop first
2 mos. DON'T BUY THIS SUV. Here's
a list: Broken A.C.;broken stereo;
door handles stick open;inside cargo
hatch handle broke apart;clock above
windshield malfunction;cruise control
suddenly shuts off when towing; remote
keychain adjusted 3times; loud noise
coming from AC vent; MOST OF ALL the V8
has an "inherent" shaking problem they
can't fix. You actually shake when
sitting in the thing parked with
the engine running. Absolutely
unacceptable $46,000. VW already paid
one of my car payments for the
inconvenience. It's going back in the
shop again for a squeaky steering
wheel. Can you say class action lawsuit?

Best Features

The days when it is not in the shop.

Worst Features

The fly-by-wire throttle response is horrible for around town driving. Other people have already complained about neck-snapping when stepping on the gas pedal.

Review

9,000 mi. car has been in shop more
than 14 times. CD, NAV, constant
problem with warning lights, rear lift
keeps opening for no reason. Most
dangerous is when driving from 1 thru
2nd car goes to neutral so you are
turning into intersection and car does
nothing. How many visits. VOA sent me
to "Best" dlr. in area - clueless. Buy
2 cars year, never complained about the
usual. This truck just has so many and
nobody seems to care.

Best Features

interior comfort, power, ride is strong and secure. Mileage DOES improve after 7500 miles.

Worst Features

In dash CD player. Easier NAV. This makes the older NAV systems seem modern. NAV is a great step backward. Finally, neither XM, nor VW knows how to install XM radio, although both have tried.
