I like the ride and the look. Everything you need to do is on the information screen. So your eyes are on the screen alot of the time. Everytime there is something wrong and there are plenty of glitches in the information screen you get to leave it at your VW dealership for days where they have to work with VW offsite mechanics to help them troubleshoot the issue. My pretty black wheels the paint is peeling after owning the car for 3 months. No thank you, I'm going to take a big hit and go back to Honda or Toyota.

I’m no stranger to Volkswagon having had several over the years, the last being a 2021 SE. I loved that car, particularly for its classic German design and great handling. When the time came I reluctantly traded it in for the totally new 2025 Tiguan SE R line black and so far I’m not disappointed. However here’s my observations pro and con of this new vehicle. First the new model is a completely new vehicle and represents a total redesign of the Tiguan. The new design is on a totally new platform with a more powerful engine (up to 201 from 184). Gone is the no nonsense straight forward design which characterizes most German cars. This car is so distinctive that if it didn’t have the big VW logo on it, you might think it was a Toyota, Kia, or Mazda. Still at it’s heart is still a good German road machine that is fun to drive. The fit and finish superb, the rear seat leg room is massive (as was the previous version) but the rear cargo area is slightly smaller than previous model. However it is still plenty large for most luggage needs, and with the rear seats down provides room for almost anything. The front seats are very comfortable with big bolsters to hug you securely. They are leatherette in an attractive light gray and black with perforated surfaces while the driver’s side is power adjustable however, the passenger seat is manual. At this trim level you would expect both seats to be powered. There is a brand new infotainment system featuring a massive 12.5 in. screen in the dashboard. However it blends perfectly with the wide interior and the software provides beautifully clear color graphics. So far I have almost mastered the technology which is complex but also intuitive. However there are no longer any “hard” buttons for climate control as all functions are controlled by the infotainment screen. The dash cluster is similar to previous years models with digital display that can be customized. One feature I really love is the head up display which projects current speed and cruise control data on the windshield. As with the previously model fuel economy is much, much better than EPA estimates. Granted most of my driving is in a rural area so mostly highway, however I am averaging 33 to 35 MPG locally and on a six hour road trip got 38 MPG. Now for the items that I am unsure about or dislike. First is the infotainment system: in previous years VW systems were glitchy and problematic. Plus this new system controls virtually everything. So far it is working flawlessly, but who knows? Then there is the fact that there is no oil dipstick! Borrowing from Porsche ( I had one years ago) the oil level is checked via software in the infotainment system. I really dislike that as l like to look at the oil not just check the level. The vehicle has 20 inch Perrilli tires on beautiful black powder coated rims. However they are low aspect tires (255 x 40 R 20) and are not as “soft a ride as a 18 or 19 inch wheel. Still they provide good traction on wet surfaces and look great. In the final analysis I am well pleased with this new model. It’s still very fun to drive, handling is crisp and acceleration is good. It has loads of features at the R line trim level and is a real head turner on the road.

2025 VW Tiguan Tech Problems - Be Advised

My wife and I purchased a 2025 VW Tiguan on May 30, 2025. On July 14, I brought the vehicle to the dealer’s VW service center for problems I experienced with the Infotainment system locking up and wireless charging not working. On July 24, I experienced the CarPlay disconnecting (“not available”) and later that day the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Travel Assist malfunctioned (“not available”). On July 28, I returned the vehicle to the VW dealer’s service center for intermittent problems with the ACC, Cruise Control, and Travel Assist not working (with error messages indicated) and CarPlay (“not available”). I have meticulously documented the multiple problems, which I have shared in emails (including photos of error messages) and meetings with the VW dealer’s service and sales managers. Please note that I experienced the same problems with the ACC, Cruise Control, and Travel Assist on two 2025 loaner Tiguans that I documented on our Tiguan. I have also maintained a journal and MFRs of the continuing problems and a records of my email and discussions with VW dealer’s service and sales managers. Since July, the VW dealer’s service center has had the vehicle for diagnostics and service four times for 61 days (and counting). After replacing one of the cameras on the Tiguan, the VW service center is now replacing the radar sensor. I’m hopeful but skeptical. If customer are interested in buying a 2025 VW Tiguan, they should perform their due diligence.

The SE AWD Punches Above Its Weight

The SE with moon room is the best deal for this particular car in my opinion. VW is giving huge discounts which puts this car on the lower end of spectrum. I have the blue with the light interior, and it looks fantastic. I've had soooo many cars, but now I can't live without color changing ambient lighting. This SUV is one of the only ones that give you cool ambient lighting in the lower trim levels. So far I enjoy everything about this SUV. I'm getting around 29 mpg mixed driving. The cabin is quiet at speed but a bit loud under acceleration. The ride is smooth and VW gives these cars good Pirelli tires.. unlike other brands. I have not had any of the acceleration lag problems that others have talked about. The car is super responsive and down-shifts when needed. The infotainment system is amazing and way above any competitor. While the SE doesn't have Nav you won't miss it since it has wireless Android Auto and Apple. Some folks complain that all of the functions are through the screen. This can be annoying in other cars, but VW somehow made it very intuitive and easy to use. There is a "button" for everything you use often so you don't have to hunt for them. Even the climate is super easy to use and the slider does exactly what you want it to do. I even love the big volume dial on the center console with the integrated screen... it's a nice touch in an otherwise boring center console.... Speaking of boring. The Tiguan fairly well appointed on the interior, but not as nice as Hyundai or Kia for instance. The Tiguan may have nice lighting, but the parts and pieces seem a bit cheaper all together... and it is not as buttoned down as some of the competition. There are a couple of small rattles coming from the front and the very back which I can't figure out what they are... a bit disappointing. However, it could be from the cold weather at the moment. Then again, my 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe had no rattles at all. All in all, this car is very good if you get a good deal. I think at sticker they are way overpriced. But if you can manage to get 3-6k off (depending on trim) then these become a very good value. Lastly, the SE R-Line looks amazing.. but is it worth 2k more? The only substantive things you get are the looks, the bigger wheels, and a head-up-display. I would have liked a HUD, but I just don't think a body kit with a firmer ride is worth the extra money. I also don't like dark cabins, and the SE R comes with a dark headliner... but hey, it's still not a bad deal either way.

Wow! This is an undercover luxury suv. Lots of fine touch material and plenty of interior space with premium tech. The ride is smooth; kind of reminds me of an X5 when turning and the road noise is not there. The acceleration is more than adequate for this vehicle size and the gas mileage above average. The vehicle turns heads when I drive for its modern aerodynamic styling. I am very impressed with this vehicle and for the price it is phenomenal.
