Vehicle2013 Volkswagen Passat S PZEV 4dr Sedan w/Appearance (2.5L 5cyl 6A)
ReviewI like this car but do not love it. It is smooth, has well thought out controls, is spacious, looks good, and drives well but i'm not sure if it is still the pick of the class. The big let down is the five cylinder power train. The mileage isn't great, the engine isn't as smooth as the Honda four i've come from, the power output is poor for something with five cylinders, and the transmission is slow to shift. No verdict yet on reliability. The car feels well made but VW cars have not always lasted. Only time will tell.
Best FeaturesThe car is comfortable and has an excellent amount of space. The back seat is excellent for all but the largest of adults. The trunk space is pretty good. The steering is excellent. The car is quiet at cruise and rides well. Gauges and controls are clear.
Worst FeaturesThe interior design could be a lot smarter. Some cars have all kinds of little cubbyholes and spots to put things. This car does not and as a consequence really does not make as much use out of its space as it can. The engine is also a let down coming from being used to a Honda four that was both smoother and more powerful. The VW engine is course at higher RPM, doesn't pull that hard for an engine of its size, doesn't get gas mileage, and isn't that smooth. The transmission can also be very slow to downshift. With a better standard power train this would be a much better car. As it is it is still a good car but others in the class have more power, are quicker, and get better mileage.

Erik25, I've owned 9 Hondas. When you go to trade in a Honda you don't dare trade it back to Honda- they will give you the lowest value for it. So Honda is no joy either. The Passat cost so little for what you get if they were to refine it to the best standards you better add another $15K to the sticker.Report it
