1st owner of my 2005 Jetta Diesel, have station wagon auto trans. Travel from North East to Florida each year, so it has avoided winter salty roads. I've replace the timing belt at 85,000 miles to be on safe side. Will need new rubber on my struts both normal ware. Still have original brake pads at 90,000 miles at every oil change I expect to be told its time to change so far not yet. Fuel economy.... average 34 to 39 miles per gallon I can get 42 miles on a gallon if I drive at my RPM sweet spot which is 38 to 41 miles an hour, at that speed you will get the 42 per gallon. Would I buy this vehicle again YOU BETCHA I would. Paid $21,5000 in Jan of 20005

Our first import car. TDI is great for fuel economy. Problems; we hit 20000 miles & had to replace the fuel filter. Could have been bad diesel fuel, but paid because its suggested to be replaced every 20000 miles. Vehicle now has 64000, no problems since. Trunk lid latch doesn't work in cold weather. Got it replaced under warranty, now it doesn't work again and no warranty to help. Most recent, driver side door electrical harness went out, leaving me with no controls, no way lock car or open up the fuel tank door. VW wants $500 to repair. Dealer said passenger door is going out, another $500. Also, we have replaced several, blown exterior light bulbs, some multiple times.

My Jetta is a great car to drive and I think it is a very safe car. On the Jetta I was able to get a sun roof and side air curtains, some other cars either did not have the air curtains available or not avail with a sun roof. I have side airbags as well. The milage is great and the ride is peppy when I need it. The heated seats get a lot warmer and warm up faster than my husbands S-10 quad cab.the front seats have good leg room, the back seats are OK, a little more leg room would be nice, but I test drove worse. I like the fact that I have 3 head rests in the back seat and that all the head rests are in a good position for safety.

I have owned this car from day one, 10 miles on the odo. Gl, 5 speed trans. wagon and the great TDI engine, it sounds like a little sewing machine. the engine has delivered on every promise spec said 47 city 36 hwy, not even close. I have got 55 mpg highest during rural driving while averaging 50+ at 70 on 1500 mile trips. Oil change is 10,000 miles and I change the filter at 5000. Now have 150,000 on it and will wait for 200,00 0 before changing all the belts again I bought this car while it was still on the transport ship and had to wait until the ship docked and the dealer received the car. At 80,000 changed the serpentine belt (not a big problem) and changed the timing belt at 100,000( this took some special tools and three days along with a stud kit and a water pump. (all came in the kit) acceleration is fantastic for a 4 cyl diesel and the engine will spin close to 5000, revs and possibly more, no guts to take it further. the car has never left me on the side of the road. the Brakes have all of 150,000miles on them so will check them next week, may have to change all of the rotors by the time the pads wear out. Ac is good as is the heater. only dealer service was a defective switch on the clutch peddle that stopped the cruse control from engaging. I will keep driving this car until the are no more parts to fix it with or it gets wrecked beyond repair. front seat are cloth and fairly comfy and back is a tad small for anyone over 5' 5 "... in conclusion. should have bought two of this model.... Well I had to look at the brakes . bad noise coming from the left front. removed the wheel and found nothing, put the wheel back on and test drove the car and no noise at all, must have picked up a rock that got stuck on the brake pad, while wheel was off having purchased new pads before taking off the wheel, Much to my surprise the old pads were only 1/8th inch smaller than the new ones, so I took the new one back to the store. I will check them again at 250,000miles. the rotors looked perfect. Once again I will say, "should have bought two of them, a his and hers pair. Well this car now has 175,000. miles on it. have changed the front axel shafts which was not a big deal, engine purrs like a kitten. will wait until 200 k to replace belts again. Still in love with this car. 2005 model year and worth every penny of the $19999 dollar investment. The car is garaged in Arizona now as we bought a 2014 Passat with the 2.0 diesel engine for driving in Washington. The Passat is a little more comfortable to drive than the Jetta. but lacks in the mileage department. The Passat only averages 45 to 49 MPG. Lots of power for a slightly bigger car. same great performance from the engine. but I do miss driving the little Jetta. Posted this day from Pacific beach Washington July 26th.
