2005 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel GLS TDI 4dr Sedan (1.9L 4cyl Turbodiesel 5A)

Review

My search was for a reliable, fuel efficient car with a ride that didn't cause it's passengers pain. I demonstrated most all the small fuel efficient cars including the hybrids. While the TDI Jetta was the last one I demonstrated, it was the best in build quility, performace and ride. It abounds with lots of standard equipment. All-around air bags, four wheel disc brakes and much more. While it is not a street racer off the line, the Jetta's turbo diesel runs with the best on the expressway. Best MPG is 47, Worst MPG is 38 in the city with A/C on. Insurance costs are a lot lower than the hybrids. (a savings of $400 to $800 per year)

Best Features

Mechanically, the TDI Jetta is a mature design. Its reliability has been outstanding. The ride is better than any small or mid size car I have driven. The interior sound level is excellent. The build quility is superiority any other small car except, maybe a BMW. Price / Value ++++

Worst Features

None. It seems to be the best balance of size, reliabity, cost and perforance. Works for me!!!!

2005 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel New TDI 4dr Sedan (1.9L 4cyl Turbodiesel 6AM)

Review

Once a month I make a 1100 mile round trip from Alexandria Va to the Adirondacks in NY. I mainly stay on interstates at 75 to 80 mph and the car handles like a pro. Cold weather, snow, no problem. The best its done for mpg is 51, worst 49. The only complaint is it takes forever to warm up at 0 degrees F. My tootsies get cold by the time the heat starts blowing on them. All in all, I highly reccomend the car, and love owning it!

2005 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel New TDI 4dr Sedan (1.9L 4cyl Turbodiesel 6AM)

Review

Had the car for less than a month. Gas mileage is awesome, lot better than my previous car. Only problem with the new Jetta's so far is the rattling of the speakers in the front doors. There is a TBA out, and most dealers know about the problem. After, when the problem is fixed, the sound system sounds awesome.

Best Features

Engine - great gas mileage. Averaging between 48 - 50 mpg.

Worst Features

Engine - allow biodiesel use.

2005 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel New TDI 4dr Sedan (1.9L 4cyl Turbodiesel 5M)

Review

This car can not be compared to the civic or corolla. It is a class of its own, closer maybe to the passat or accord but cheaper. The interior is that of a premium car. Great comfort with great fuel efficiency. Enough space for a family of 4, huge trunk makes it a great car for travel. When you drive it you forget that it is a diesel engine.

Best Features

rain sensor, premium stereo, leatherette seats (easy to clean and feel like leather)

Worst Features

more colors, offer a wagon, compatible with MP3 player

2005 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel New TDI 4dr Sedan (1.9L 4cyl Turbodiesel 5M)

Review

Poor man's BMW 325i, rich man's Toyota Corrola. Great fuel economy, averaging 45 mpg in the city. Fun to drive: handles extremely well in tight corners and suspension is nice and firm. Acceleration is sluggish, and barely adequate. The handling, suspension and sound of the diesel engine delude you into believing that you are going very fast. Very comfortable and well laid-out interior design. Exterior is sharp looking.

Best Features

Fuel economy, handling, suspension, interior design.

Worst Features

Sluggish acceleration, poor side mirror controls (joystick is difficult to position), engine still noisy (but improved from previous diesels).
