2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8T 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 5M)

You'd be hard-pressed to find a combination of styling and features in a similar car. After driving the Passat V6 and Jetta VR6/1.8T, I opted for the 2002 GLS 1.8T w/ every option available. It was just a fun car to drive. It was a tough car to find (9/01), so the dealer tried to give me the supply & demand surcharges for silver, rare options, etc. You’ll experience the same headache with the New Beetle Turbo S about now. Needless to say, I worked a good price and have been extremely pleased.

Best Features

180 turbocharged ponies. Aftermarket-looking 17” factory rims. Tiptronic.

Worst Features

There are a few rattles, but I can’t complain if that’s the only flaw. The seat pan is a bit too shallow and more thigh support would be good. VW should offer power seats in the GLS trim. For the future, how about that 225hp 4-cyl Audi’s got and maybe a 2-door version to run with the 3-series Ci.
