Bought the car in 2003, immediately had
to have the entire transmission
replaced, rear window fell in and
wouldn't go down, gets 13 mpg, brakes
suck...

Awesome car to drive, VR6 rocks. heated seats really cook

Worst Features

cup holders suck, rain-sensitive wipers don't always work, emergency break in a bad spot, bigger back seat

2000 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan GLS 1.8T Turbo 4dr Sedan

Review

I have had my 2000 1.8T Jetta (manual)
for four years now and it has been a
good experience. I have seen the bad
ratings and heard the talk about it
being a problem car - but there are no
complaints here. Other than a few
wrinkles ironed out under warranty
during the first year, the car has been
fine.

The car now has over 60,000 miles and
still rides and handles nicely. The
excelleration is still there, too!

Best Features

I especially like the combination of the 1.8T engine and stick shift. The turbo gives me the feeling of "lift- off" during excelleration. This model has a 150 hp engine. The newer 170 hp turbos could only be better.

Worst Features

A horizontal height adjustment for the arm rest (adjust height while keeping arm rest level) would really help. Also, the lock nuts for the wheels are totally useless. The key for the lock nuts only strips them because the grooves are too fine.

Review

The thing that I have found about this
car is that you get out of it what you
put in to it. If you take care of it
and maintain it properly, you will
have a fun to drive and reliable car.
If you abuse and knock around your
cars and expect them to work like a
Swiss watch - you'll be better off
with a Honda. I have had my share of
annoying little problems with this car
(failed sensors, broken glove box door
that snapped in 10 degree weather,
etc.) but nothing in the past 30,000
miles. I would highly recommend a
Jetta to anyone who is a car
enthusiast looking for a fun to drive
small car with a German engineered
feel with lots of standard features.

Best Features

Interior design, smooth & torqey engine (VR6), blue instrument illumination, great steering & handling, large trunk

Worst Features

Electrical system, power window mechanism, 5-speed gearbox (2nd gear synchro device sometimes grinds on quick shifts), cramped back seat for adults

2000 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan GLX VR6 4dr Sedan

Review

I bought my 2000 Jetta VR6 GLX in
2002. It has been in the shop all the
time. It stalls spiratically, and no
dealership or independent shop knows
how to fix it. Engine Workshop Light
and Emission Workshop lights always go
on; I take it to the shop, and the
code the car gives is wrong. The
window fell one day and had to be
replaced, along with the underside of
my bumper. Regardless of all the
machanical problems, it is a fun car
to drive when it runs. Great interior.

Best Features

Heated seats, interior, manual transmission

Review

Do you like to Visit the Mechanic and
spend lots of $$ for repairs, then I
have the car for you. I couldn't pass
it's first Emmissions Test, due to some
electronic failure. The water temp
gauge broke--another bad sensor. The
the check Engine light comes on twice
in 5000 miles. EAch time requiring a
$90 diagnostic.

Best Features

The switch blade Key Great seats, cool illumination of dash.

Worst Features

How about you release your engine diagnostics so other people can work on your over priced german Zitrone?
