I test drove the Matrix, Protege and
Protege5 and never really considered
VW as a possibility. I was always more
of the Japanese type. However, the
second I pulled that thing out of the
lot my world changed. It's got quite
the pick up for 115hp and 120 torque.
But I have to agree that the
cupholders do block the stereo
controls, but I do like how they are
Smooth transmission, great brakes,
amazing standard saftey features.
Shorter throw on gearbox, firmer
clutch, cupholders that might not
interfere with stereo controls.
OK...tested the Protege5, Focus ZX3,
Focus SVT and PT Cruiser. Never
considered purchasing a VW and was
prepared to buy the Protege5 until a co-
worker insisted I test drive the Golf.
The test drive changed my mind! This
car feels much more substantial than
the other cars in its class. Handling,
brakes, and comfort are very good. The
list of standard safety features is
awesome! A very good value IMHO.
Fun-to-drive, handling, front seats,
brakes, safety equipment, Monsoon Sound
More horsepower, cupholders block
access to stereo controls.
After driving a Nissan Altima for
78,000 miles I wanted to find a car
that would make my 3-hour commute more
enjoyable. I tested Honda, Toyota,
Nissan, and even a Vibe. all left me a
little disappointed with their
performance. After driving the Golf I
was hooked. The car is faster and
handles better than any of the other 4-
cyl models I tested. The build quality
is awesome and feels solid compared to
the tin can feeling of the Japanese
autos. I purchased a GLS w/ winter and
Monsoon and have never been happier
with a car. Before you buy that Honda
Try a VW.
Power off the line, Short braking
distance, tight steering, build
quality, 4 year 50,000 mile warranty
This is the best car for the money!
Test-drive a VW, and then try the rest.
You will find yourself under-whelmed by
the JPN manufactures. The Golf is
quick, handles like a dream, has
awesome stopping power, a ton of safety
features, and a high resale value. Not
to mention its tall person friendly. If
youre over 61 you dont need to buy
the optional shoehorn to get in and out
of the car.
Before you buy another Honda or
Toyota test-drive the Golf.
Steering, power, comfort, styling, and
safety. I had the car explained from
the tires up. I highly recommend Devon
