1997 Highlights

Cabrio comes in two trim levels for 1997: Base and Highline. Base models are decontented versions of last year's car, priced a couple thousand dollars lower to entice young drivers. Highline models have standard alloy wheels, foglights and leather seats. Engines have a redesigned cylinder head resulting in quieter operation.

And I used to be a big VW fan....
I've had nothing but problems with it. The car is now 5 years old, and has 43,000 miles on it. Problems so far have been: 1) The door moldings continuously fall off. VW will reattach new ones at about 70 dollars per, but you'll need it done every 6-8 months. 2) Cruise control failed. Had to have a new one installed. 3) Power Steering fluid reservoir had to be replaced. 4) Transmission linkage broke, had to be replaced. 5) Air conditioner failed completely, had to be replaced. 7) The driver's side seat fell apart, had to be replaced. There's more that I can't fit in this box.
An often overlooked fun budget car
We paid $5500 for our car. It needs tires and the front bumper and grille has stone wear on it, but we'll tackle it later. Fun to drive, plenty of room for 4 adults or 2 adults and 2 baby seats. Frugal and easy to maintain. A wonderful update to our 1984 Rabbit Convertible. I would recommend this convertible as it was easy to incorporate into our lives. Both fun and sensible and durable. My previous '84 Convertible had close to 200K miles when I sold it and I expect to see the same durability in this car. The steel encased trunk, added safety features (ABS, rollbar, airbags), cloth top, and leather interior are very nice updates! Contact me if have any quest
So good, I'm getting another one....
I bought my Cabrio a year and a half ago, and I've had a blast ever since. I loved the leather interior, the heated seats, CD player, AWESOME speakers...unfortunately I was hit by another driver and that car was totalled but I am currently looking for another Cabrio!!! I'm HOOKED!!
