Huge upgrade over previous generation

2026 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 8A)
I'm replacing a top of the line 2024 Tiguan R-line with the 2026 Tiguan R-line turbo. In most cases, it's a huge improvement.
Top improvements:
(1) Exterior appearance: The new design is much sharper and more distinctive. The hood is much squarer and raised higher. The body creases are more defined. Both the front and rear light bars light up with the logo also lighting up. There … is a clever light display both in the front and the rear as you approach the vehicle with the key in your pocket. The mirrors automatically unfold and project a VW puddle light on the ground. The door automatically unlock. When you walk away, the doors automatically lock and the mirrors fold.
(2)Interior appearance: The infotainment display has grown from 8 inches to 15 inches. The screen is much brighter and higher resolution, and much more responsive. The interface is easy to use. Apple Carplay works flawlessly with or without a wire. There is much more room to store items between driver and passenger. The quality of materials has dramatically improved with a beautiful stiched dash, ambient lighting, and real wood trim.
(3) Seat comfort: The seats are much more comfortable now with a well done massage function.
(4) Power and acceleration: The older model was quite sluggish and the engine would groan noisily under acceleration. The new engine makes acceleration effortless and quiet.
(5) Quietness: The engine is much quieter especially under acceleration. It is also quieter while cruising with minimal road and wind noise.
(6) Ride quality: While still maintaining the sharp handling of the previous generation, the ride is less harsh and it handles going over large bumps much better than before.
(7) Audio system: While the previous Fender audio system was quite good and above average, the new one is an improvement in many ways. The new system has much more power, going from 400 W to 700 W. This allows the music to really fill up the cabin. There are 3 new speakers up front which help create a good front staging area, and a much more immersive sound. The music is clear but the default systems are bass heavy. There are many more controls also, which now has a 5 band equalizer, and the ability to tailor the sound according to how position of the seats.
A few negatives:
(1) The cargo area is slightly smaller.
(2) The cargo cover is cheaper and flimsier.
(3) The rear seats have lost their ability to slide and recline. The split now 60/40 while the previous one was 40/20/40. On the other hand, the rear leg room has improved by a few inches.
Overall, one feels that one has moved up a class in vehicle, from a non-luxury to a luxury brand.
